Game plan vs Geelong
Play Paddy from the goal square and keep him in our 50 at all times.
Cats can either man him up or leave him lose. With no Harry Taylor, Geelong has no obvious match up for Paddy, so one-on-one Paddy should win the day. If they leave him unattended, then a couple of over-the-top entries should result in easy goals.
It's a plan, and a plan is a lot better than no plan. Our coach is too conservative, he needs to take risks, try something, do something, - anything is better than nothing.
If it works, the whole team will lift, and if it fails - so what, doing nothing was going to fail anyway.

Re: Game plan vs Geelong
Nah, let's stick with our "manic pressure every time a stkilda player has the ball, who is presented with no options, but even if he had plentiful options would miss the target anyway" approach.
In all seriousness though, I like the Paddy approach. However, it's very easy for someone to run off him if he doesn't mark the ball or bring it to ground to the advantage of our crumbers.

Hopefully game plan will involve more than 5 or 6 goals for the game.... 5 or 6 goals a QTR will do nicely thanks.

Yes, let's also bring back Longer so that we can for most of the game have 16 Saints vs 18 Cats. Should work a treat....Toy Saint wrote:Play Paddy from the goal square and keep him in our 50 at all times.

I agree this is worth a go, also one of our quick and not so small players should be ready & close enough to charge into the 50Toy Saint wrote:Play Paddy from the goal square and keep him in our 50 at all times.

so that if/when the ball hits the ground he can either get the crumbs or at least put pressure on Paddy's opponent to stop the
ball coming out easily.

Hmmm I wonder it will be the usual game plan of run, carry, handball, handball, handball, handball and then kick and hope?

Re: Game plan vs Geelong
This, this, and so much this. I have been saying this since we recruited McCartin. Just park him inside 50 and isolate him when the other forwards are following opponents up the field. If his direct opponent runs off him, fair play, but when the ball comes back the opponent will wear themselves out running back to create a contest. Paddy can conserve his energy for leading and the marking contest.Toy Saint wrote:Play Paddy from the goal square and keep him in our 50 at all times.

And let's play two ruckmen.

Sadly too many dunces don’t understand this. It’s a major problem with Paddy and his tank of slow ruckman in a key forward. It’s not the 90’s anymore folks.saintsRrising wrote:Yes, let's also bring back Longer so that we can for most of the game have 16 Saints vs 18 Cats. 100%. You leave Paddy in the goalsquare, what do you think his opponent does? He goes and burns us around the ground as we are outnumbered at contest. We would get killed.saintspremiers wrote:Sadly too many dunces don’t understand this. It’s a major problem with Paddy and his tank of slow ruckman in a key forward. Re: Game plan vs Geelong
Game plan.
1. don't quit. I want to see second and third efforts
2. make leads. Too many time we have a free with no targets
3. Make tackles stick. I'm talking to the forwards here, especially Lonie if he play's
4. Sheppard. Just because you don't have the ball doesn't mean you don't play a part. Get in their way
5. capitalise on opportunities. I know, Captain Obvious.
6. Don't blindly play on or kick forward. If you have a mark inside 50. Stop if you aren't sure. Worst case scenario you have a shot at goal.
7. Play with some pride about the tri-colours. it's ok to lose, its not ok to play rubbish footy and lose.

Agree.prwilkinson wrote:Game plan - Basically try not to get absolutely smashed!
I want to see three quarters of good footy and one of defensive flooding/holding pattern.
Impossible for us to play 4 quarters IMO
