And while we're at it. As has been said many, many times before - Josh Bruce is not a ruckman. What there is of forward line structure goes out the window when he's not there.

Marshall to ruck with Gilbert as the cut-out. I know Sam's got his deficiencies but at least he will bring a contest and provide more run than we currently have.

Yep as much as it pains me to say it, Gilbert might be our best option right now. At least he'll add some grunt in the middle and around the ground. With Longer playing, we are effectively playing a player short!

I've always rated Hickey, who I thought was very good in 2016. The coach doesn't seem to share that opinion and Hickey may have bought into the coach's perception.

Longer was keeping Goldsytien honest yesterday until he got hurt. Early in 3rd qtr he went off and thats when they got 3 clearances and kicked goals . Goldstien killed Bruce ( as you would expect) and Longer tried to come back but was lame and he ran off him.

Longer is no star but it is unfair to rip him on yesterdays performance as realistically shouldn't have been put back on .

Longer can play so can Hickey. We have seen both of them monster opponents whilst providing mids protections and serviceable clearances...they both are suffering. Why? I dont know thats the f@cking coaches job to get into their mind grapes and help them or get them the help needed to perform.

Honestly its only a few things that hinder performance in sport...lack of skill, lack of physical health & fitness, lack of self belief, lack of capacity.

If you perform at a high level in spurts ( even rare) it is either injury, too old (capacity) or mental ( self belief).

There is no game plan issue - you're a fecking ruck....Jump! Tap! Block! Clear the ball to advantage. Run! Provide option in marking contests! Handball! Mark! Kick! That is it for every ruck in every AFL game played anywhere in the galaxy.

Longer might need a rest, and Marshall might come in, perhaps? - but Pierce had 1 solitary game for us in 2016 when he was only 21 and he got a few possessions (at least as many as our regular choice averages) and kicked a goal! - and he did this with only 50% game time. That's the only chance he got, and he acquitted himself quite well.
We shouldn't be writing the others off - unless the club wants to control our salary cap, by keeping our other 3 ruckmen in reserve and on minimum salary, so that we can have more to spend on a free agent?

We are already treacle slow and unskilled, having two rucks would just exaserbate this.

Who else is playing two genuine rucks?

We need a player who can just be competitive in the ruck but actually offers us something around the ground, not "protect our mids" -whatever that means.
