Linton Lodger wrote:In an argument, its best to look at the undisputed facts.

These are some compelling undisputed facts noted by BFUSA:

2014 - 4 wins 60.8%
2015 - 6.5 wins 78.4%
2016 - 12 wins 95.7% in an overachieving season given easier draw
2017 - 11 wins 96.9% with a harder draw and Riewoldt, Dempster and Montagna no longer elite.
2018 - no games played and the strategic plan calls for 14 wins+. Possible??? Yes. Probable??? No. But let’s hope.

Last year we weren't quite good enough to play finals, too inconsistent within games and over the season (typical of a young list). Yet if our kicking for goal alone (the worst in the League) had been on par with the second worst (Melbourne), our young team which wasn't yet up to Finals standard, would have won 13 or 14 and played Finals.

So why are there calls for the Coach's head etc? Practice match form? The fact that we didn't get a gun Free Agent? Only Martin & Kelly were worth getting and they stayed put.
Good post.

People need to remember we were only 4 1/2 wins off top spot last year. A couple more wins last year and we were sitting pretty. Its not insurmountable by any means to get 13 wins in 2018.

We were also only 5 games off being equal second last.

4.5 games off top position is only a 41% differential.

Sounds good though.

True. Just shows how close the comp is. Its great. A win or loss x 2 can make a big difference for a side.

4.5/11 = 41%

As a percentage, that's still a fair way off the top.

Interesting.

We won 50% of our games.
73% would have seen us clear on top.

That requires an improvement of 46% or 23/50.

We’re not that close if you use percentages.

Simple arithmetic.

And Albert Einstein apparently used 11% of his brain. Not 10% like the average human so there is hope yet.

Sure, sack the coach. But then who do we get instead? Unless you have an answer to that, it's probably better to just STFU.

If we start the season poorly with losses to Lions and North then sure, get up in arms and start calling for the coach. But at this stage the fact is it's smooth sailing. The season starting in a fortnight, just relax.

The reality is people have called for every coaches head that we have including Thomas and Lyon who both had success. So it's hard not to take these threads with a grain of salt.

I definitely don't want to sack him.
But why we ramped up the contract extension remains a mystery.

I had no real issue with a one year extension. A further two was very questionable.

Very simple indeed when applied in a win/loss ratio without applying it to performance.

Does our defence improve or just our attack.

Does our score increase without any effect on the opposition?

One of the main reasons im so bitter and twisted at the moment was the losses to Essendon and the Demons late in the season.
Really left me feeling bitter.
We will need to 2 or 3/5 from the Crows, Cats, GWS, Hawks, Demons games for me to recover.

Agreed.

I think the club was concerned that he may sacrifice tomorrow for today in terms of selling the farm to play finals in 2018 and wanted to reassure him that they had faith in him long term?

That's my best guess.

But they either believe in him or don't... if you don't trust him, don't sign him til the half-way point

Rocket wrote:The knock I have on Richo is his conservative nature. Compare him to Beveridge who builds a team where players must be able to play in multiple positions. Richo is plain Jane. Same thing re his selection policy; rarely takes a risk

A few more moves on the whiteboard
- Swing Membrey to CHB, when getting sat on forward (Sicily, Gunston, Jeremy H role)
- Play Battle. This kid has all the attributes, just needs game time
- Carlisle forward. Rarely happens
- Wright or Weller into back pocket to play lock down roles. Both have the discipline to sit on a man and beat
- Rice can use he ball off half back. Better than Webster who butchers one or two every game. Give him a go
- Billings to Half back. Quarterback role
- Bruce to CHB

I’m not saying every move will work but would love to see more creativity from Richo.

He keeps it so one dimensional.
That's a lot of players in the back line.

There may have been a fear the Filth were targeting him since FIGJAM's future hasn't been secure.

P.S. I think if we can give Richo some time (as Richmond did for Hardwick), the team sooner or later will begin to flourish.

Do you honestly think the filth would 'target' Alan Richardson?
I mean truly?

Hardwick won 15 games in his 4th season.

Hardwick didn't inherit a list anywhere near as bad as the one Richo got when he took over in 2014.

I don't see why a club like the Filth wouldn't want Richo. What makes you think they'd turn their noses at him?

Forwards who can't convert from set shots is Richo's biggest concern, they cost us 3-4 games last year!!!

On a side note, how is it this forum now has two posters with the handle Con Gorozides? Having just the one was more than enough.

One of the same perhaps?

I swear there are a few individuals (very few) on here that post under different names...I think they even have arguments or agree with themselves sometimes. The net is a weird place at times.

Pretty simple.

Win % - 37.5%

We finished 3rd last in 2013.

They also had a compromised draft to deal with in 2010. They finished 2nd bottom but only got pick 6.

What is the diff?
