AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan says the onus is on St Kilda to repair their financial position now that the club has a new AFL deal at Etihad Stadium and an administrative base at Moorabbin.
McLachlan, revealing that the Saints were one of three clubs with‘‘big lumps of debt’’ – the others are the Brisbane Lions and Port Adelaide – said it was ‘‘incumbent’’ on them to get their business to work.
McLachlan said St Kilda’s debt was more than $10 million, while Port’s was ‘‘less than 10 (million)’’. The St Kilda debt, he said, did not include ‘‘capital’’ debt, such as spending on the club’s move back to Moorabbin.
The Saints say that the new Etihad deal will be worth about $2 million per season extra, based on the same attendance figures as last year, and that it will be a game-changer for the club’s financial difficulties.

Nice circular reasoning there Gilligan, you muppet.
Isn’t the Colonial Stadium dud deal one of the key reasons the club’s finances are up sh*t creek in the first place?
A bit of a nonsensical, condescending and ignorant comment from Gilligan.
Don’t miss an opportunity to stick the knife into the league’s scapegoat.
See you next Tuesday at the Polo, Gilligan.

When we move back to Moorabbin, is it true the Moorabbin rebuild will be only half finished with no money in the kitty for stage 2 ?
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

It is pretty funny... If you subtract the fines accumulated from 20 years of home games from the current debt, we are about $20,000,000 up.
If you also replaced half of our past home games against interstate sides with local high drawing sides we would be about $50,000,000 up.

Because he is defelecting responsibility from where the responsibility lays.oh when the wrote:Why does he air it in the public
Wankers like McLachlan make comments accompanied by a "don't worry, don't argue, I'm completely right attitude". Come to my place for a BBQ and I'll make you agree with me. I'm surprised that such 'spin doctors' still get Executive positions, but that's a testament to the general incompetence of most businesses.
You look men like McLachlan in the eye and hit them with a counter argument to their bulls***, reject their sleazy charm and they're generally found wanting. McLachlan couldn't deal with real conflict and is a shallow suckhole.
You should have heard the idiot expressing how great AFLX was, he been the only idiot with that view and an attitude of "you know I'm right".
Well your not Gilligan, AFLX is crap and bruise free netball and you're only really competent to run a Cheesecake Shop franchise.
Finnis shopuld really respond forcefully to that wanker.

Good, it's about time someone stood up and gave them a whack. No free kicks for the rest of the season though.

Re: Gil McLachlan: "Saints are out of excuses" (Etihad deal)
The new deal is supposedly a winner.
According to the figures released by the club we should make an extra $ 200,000 approximately every home game.
Over a season and 11 home games, then that is an extra $ 2.2 million coming through the door.
However the club has also conceded that the handouts it receives from the AFL from this year will also decrease.
I understand this figure in 2017 was $ 20.6 million, the 3rd highest of any club.
If say this figure decreases by a couple of million this year, how exactly will the club be better off overall?
i'm not convinced this is a "game changer" as mentioned by Matt Finnis.

Well done Jack Rush, but I think we need to be more forceful. Can we sue the AFL for the shafting we received? If so, let some Writs fly so that Gilligan can have an attitude adjustment and pull his head in.The OtherThommo wrote:https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/don ... 4z3m4.html

Do we know if all money spent on food, drink & merch on gameday flows through to the Club?
If not we need to know, so that such vendors can be boycotted. If I'm buying food or drink at Etihad, I expect that the St Kilda FC gets a cut. If not we should actively boycott.

Mmmm, good questions. The AFL should have been liable for most of our debt, any other deal is soft.robbie muir wrote:The new deal is supposedly a winner.

DOME Deal was Atrocious for years/ Phoney AFL
"Gill McLachlan failed to publicly recognise the debilitating effect a poor stadium deal at the Dome had on the Saints' capacity to reduce debt and initiate innovative strategies to push the club forward." (Age article)
Since day one when the AFL in its' wisdom forced the Saints away from Waverley Park we have been trying to survive on struggle street. For the Bulldogs, North & St.Kilda the albatross hanging around those collective necks has been disasterous.
With AFL priorities firmly focused in heading north to new 'franchises' such as 'Suns' & 'Giants' the three traditional clubs from Victoria (Saints,Dogs & Roos) were badly exploited by the AFL to fund their new stadium.
The decent thing for the AFL to do was to pay for the Dome & have the 4 first tenant clubs start their new era on an equal footing. But no, that wasn't up for consideration.
Maybe now & with fingers firmly crossed our Saintly club can enjoy a fair dinkum financial arrangement @ the Stadium we call home.
Gilly baby we was screwed badly AFL style.
It should never have happened !

Re: Gil McLachlan: "Saints are out of excuses" (Etihad deal)
We really got screwed big time from the first day we moved to Etihad. 17 years!
Thank god its all over and the Saints will start making good money out of the stadium from now on. It will make a big difference financially.
I still can't believe the club played in and won so many finals and nearly won a couple of flags since moving to Ethiad. Plus when you add that the side trained out of a third world training facility in Moorabbin for so many years during this period. Saddam Hussein's sons - Uday and Quasy - would have been proud of the training facilities of Moorabbin back in the day as it would have been like torture turning up there for the players.
One wonders - if we had a better training home (like the new Moorabbin coming) and a stadium deal like now, then could we have won 3 or 4 flags since 2000? Maybe 5?
I still reckon the Saints are a sleeping giant of the AFL. My opinion and things could have been so different.

Dear Numpty, thanks for the being the only US President that has had the skills, determination and balls to stop the NK's from continuing their nuclear weapons program. All in your 1st term and year as POTUS! You have made the Korean Peninsula great again and brought peace to those lands!
Even Paul Keating agrees that you are great at foreign diplomacy!
