Saints AGM Last night
120 odd people filled Kingston City Hall last night for the 2017 St Kilda FC AGM...
Strategically placed near Christmas so not too many people show up its an interesting event if you can get there...
Danny Frawley was like the MC and only President Summers and CEO Finnis spoke with the rest of the board just sitting up on stage present...
None of our female board members were present....
In Summary:
Off field Major Items of Discussion:
Etihad Stadium Deal is very close to being finalised....
The difference to bottom line is in the millions that is how much of a difference this deal will make to us but it must be balanced against the recent years of AFL compensation...
How we survived in the noughties with out compensation beggars belief...
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-12-20/s ... nza-finnis
$796,000 true profit due to increased membership, all sponsorship categories all filled & that is with the increased investment to 3 million in the football dept.
Turnover has risen 5 million this year to just under 40 million.
These results are made off the back of 7 years of non finals football, its encouraging to think as we start playing finals football how these numbers can improve.
We are in a very strong salary cap position which means plenty of room for Free agents & better contracts to stars when they start demanding more money for player retention.
Moorabbin is not only going to offer an excellent training base but also diversified Revenue opportunities....eg cafes, social club etc less costs by using the facility for corporate entertainment and not having to go to other venues & paying through the nose.
Peter Maddern, the gear steward, became a life member & said coming back to Moorabbin was not a good decison but a great decision...
He thanked the board for getting this done.... you can just see what it means to the club to get back to the bayside heart land...
One member will be renewing for the 80th year and Richo and Danny Frawley will be footing the bill for his membership...
Community Engagement Program is extremely impressive- a booklet outlined how many community programs & how many people we are reaching & I would have to say we
are doing very well along with the social media team who are considered one of the best in the industry.
Alan Richardson took the stage with the 5 new players & promised more consistency- the age demographic will make this happen as the boys start hitting the 60-100 game bracket..
We are tinkering with the game plan a little but not enough where the supporter will notice..
We will move the ball fast & we will defend close to our goal & we expect to be a contender from 2018 onwards...
He states the Press say we do not have enough elite talent..he is not so sure... he is confident we have done some good work in recruiting and the talent is there...
Trade Period- we wanted key defenders & elite mid fielders and he thinks we achieved this...
Work ethic is there its at a high level he says the boys are working their socks off...
Culture is strong with no players wanting to leave.. Acres, Roberton and Ross all had offers from other clubs but they wanted to stay...
Logan Austin- hard tackler AR says he gets nervous at training when he grabs hold of Billings because he only knows on e way & that 100%..
Hunter Clarke- compared him to a bit of Dal Santo & a bit of Seb Ross
Nick Coffield- elite speed and power- great kick- tough and elite.
Oscar Clavarino- creative tall defender- athletic, agile- uses ball well he is exciting..
Ben Patton- has great awareness, pleasantly surprised and pleased what he has to offer especially on the inside..
Doulton Langlands- good speed, terrific composure & very determined.
That is all folks, happy to say its looking better every year.

Surely that person gets to step off the wheel of Samara and reach nirvana. The suffering will end when they free themselves of all attachments, especially the one to the saints.mr six o'clock wrote:Thanks for the great report.

"No, you didn't."
"Yes, I did."
"Listen, an argument isn't just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says, it's a series of statements designed to support a particular conclusion."
"No, it isn't."
"Oh, I've had enough of this."

Re: Saints AGM Last night
Good job Vazelos.
Just wanted to add they also showed a video with Leigh Montagna going through some club history (Plugger, Winmar's jumper pull up, 66 premiership, etc.) and putting the challenge to the new recruits at the AGM that with Roo, Shinner and him now gone the challenge is onto them to mark their mark for the club. Impressive.

Re: Saints AGM Last night
Thanks Vazelos. Great summary. Well done, A real service to the members you have provided. Pleasing signs re: profit.
Had planned to go but couldn't in the end - Christmas duties (surprise, surprise - that's why they hold it when they do).
I'd prefer the AGM was split into two parts. I reckon the AGM should be more about governance, finance and strategic direction on this night.
Richo talking about how the team is going to play, football department questions etc - that should be reserved for a members night at Moorabbin IMO.
I've been to too many of our AGMs where they basically skim over both parts and you feel equally unsatisfied about both.

Re: Saints AGM Last night
Great report and good to read about a positive and normal post for a change.
There are plenty of positive chakras coming from St KFC and alot to look forward to imo. A new Etihad Stadium deal is massive as is a move to the new and improved Moorabbin - the Bayside heartland of the Saints. If we start playing finals from 2018 then the Saints are looking great in all areas.

Thanks for the report Vazelos.
No splinter groups causing trouble? No factions handing out leaflets at the door?
No boisterous interplay with irate members asking curly questions from the floor?
What is this club coming to !

Interestingly, we were the number one club in the comp for members re-signing last year. Our greatest issue seems to be attracting new members.skeptic wrote:Did anybody ask about how the club could retain members better?

Can't thank you enough for this report mate.
It's not easy for us a long way away to get there.
It does sound promising. I've always thought anything worthwhile is a slow burn. Rarely does success come quickly or with luck. We're on the right path and in good hands.

Re: Saints AGM Last night
Guys I truly believe there are strong foundations being built at the club..
The Stadium deal coupled with a return to Moorabbin providing all the cultural, community and commercial benefits that provides is massive. The one last major box that will propel everything forward at a rate of knots is ofcourse on field success.
Win a premiership and the place will go into over drive.
Im glad to see some people got a bit out of my summary... onwards and upwards.

They really have done all they can with a side not playing finals for 6 years...BringBackMadDog wrote:Interestingly, we were the number one club in the comp for members re-signing last year. Consistent finals and hopefully a pre worship and the club would break records easily....
