Re: Lethlean going to Saints?!
Should never have been sacked by Gilligan. By all accounts was doing a good job.
So he had an extra-marital affair with a willing colleague. Hardly a hanging offence.
I'm not averse to us looking at him if he's a good candidate.

Where is all this coming from?
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Lethlean going to Saints?!
Herald Sun says we have landed hm. I am not thrilled about it.
"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."

Seems like it's been confirmed. Can't get the article up.

"ST KILDA has appointed axed AFL football operations manager Simon Lethlean.
Lethlean will head up the Saints restructured football department with the club’s board ratifying the move last night.
A remodelling of St Kilda’s executive ranks follows the poaching of chief operating officer and legal counsel Ameet Bains."

Regardless of whether or not his partner was a willing colleague, the morals portrayed by him were piss poor.bigcarl wrote:Should never have been sacked by Gilligan. By all accounts was doing a good job.

I’m ok with this -one indiscretion shouldn’t end his career.
As long as he’s learned the lesson it is a good pickup for us.

Not overly happy with this appointment either because of questionable character. Has suffered public embarrasment, served some time, is taking a step backwards career wise but if it’s going to benefit the Saints I can live with it.
How long though before he steps into Finnis’s job? Part of a succession plan?

Re: Lethlean going to Saints?!
Well...there goes the moral high ground. We were never great on that stance anyway.
One question, is this strengthening ties with the AFL, or putting a strain on them straight off the bat? The AFL is a boys club after all, but they were at least seen to be doing the right thing in relieving him of his position, have we moved to quick in picking him up?

If he's right for the job then he should get it. It takes two to tango.

Re: Lethlean going to Saints?!
This is just part of the reason, or symbolic of it, that we are such a piss ant club with such a shockingly poor history.
Personally, I would have NEVER entertained the thought of employing this grub. How can you trust him ??
He is a low life, aint no changing that,
Very disappointed in St.Kilda.
But you get used to that.

Re: Lethlean going to Saints?!
From what I read he appears to be a competent administrator. I feel he is an excellent get. If he takes his second chance behaves and performs well, it can also be seen as a succession plan. Finis is not going to be with us for ever. To have a competent person in the wings when the time comes can be handy.
On the question of his transgression, if all men in his position were dismissed from their post, I feel the nation may stutter to a halt.

Rolling this into "piss ant club" and "you get used to that" is (and trying not to get personal) a massively ignorant aspersion.
An inter-office fling and you'd prefer to hang the bloke. It goes on in every office at all levels, every day.
It might be frowned upon, but it ain't illegal.
You must be one hell of an angel and a top shelf good samaritan to crucify the "grub" and the "piss ant club" over this.
Give me one flag & I'll go to my grave a happy man.

Re: Lethlean going to Saints?!
But we are not a normal club.
BAD culture.
Numerous BAD off field incidents.
Numerous BAD staff/player appointments over the years.
That being the case you don’t employ grubs like Leathlean. It’s that simple.

Re: Lethlean going to Saints?!
I didn't follow what he is alleged to have done, but as far as I am aware it didn't involve sexual assault, unwanted advances, inappropriate use of power/authority, etc (if it did then feel free to set me straight). A good administrator can be as important long term to a club as a high draft pick, so if he is as capable as he seems to be, and has learned his lesson re his indiscretions, then welcome aboard!

Too true. I can't believe a liaison between consenting adults has become a sacking offence. Inspired decision by the club.
