50 years of Full Backs and our best was?
This one really will be tough to call.
Not sure Nathan Brown gets a look in! No disrespect to Nathan.

Verdun Howell (just qualifies for last 50 years)
Spud
Bob Murray
P.S Did our major goalkicker from 66 GF and the most famous point-scorer in history also play there a fair bit in early 70s?

Barks was a great fullback for the first few years of his career. Played on bigger opponents and jumped over them a few times too. All while wearing number 25

Re: 50 years of Full Backs and our best was?
Frawley owned Gary Ablett senior - Kept him goalless or to 1 or 2 goals most games; I think Ablett kicked 5 goals on him once- but Frawley was playing with a groin injury that day and was very restricted.
This was the only “bag of goals” Ablett snr kicked against us.
Frawley kept Ablett goalless and virtually kickless in a final.
GAblett snr’s lowest goal average must be vs St Kilda.

I think the day Ablett kicked 5 (might have been 6), Ablett was actually moved off Frawley and put on the wing, he kicked most, if not all of his goals from the wing. Geelong kicked about 30 against us that day after we jumped them early!samoht wrote:Frawley owned Gary Ablett senior - Kept him goalless or to 1 or 2 goals most games; I think Ablett kicked 5 goals on him once- but Frawley was playing with a groin injury that day and was very restricted.

Yes, Ablett played on Joffa Cunningham who actually had a great game, even having 6 kicked on him. They hugged each other at the end of the game.Linton Lodger wrote:I think the day Ablett kicked 5 (might have been 6), Ablett was actually moved off Frawley and put on the wing, he kicked most, if not all of his goals from the wing. Never seen Verden Howell play but I've been told he's the best

likewise - happy to go with older blokes who have seen howell and murray. Frawley was a great servant of the club through a terrible period, but my favourite by some way is maxy.
maxy, milne, and bakes - loved em!

Howell is inelgible. Never played FB after mid-65. Murray clearly the best from Frawley and Hudghton. Apologies to greats Cowboy and Barks who were stop-gaps.

Re: 50 years of Full Backs and our best was?
Certainly not our best but worth a mention in this conversation as one of the stop gaps. The G train was actually quite handy as a full back in his early days at the Saints, would have been interesting had he not moved forward to see how he developed as a key back.

Never saw Howell but from reading appears the best. Barker , Frawley, Gerhig, Hudghton probably the best in my time
