Good effort Richo
AR has spent his time away from the club walking the Kokoda Trail. Tramped it with his wife and two sons.
I admire the way Richo endeavours to keep his life in balance and not be totally consumed by AFL football.

”Richardson, who inked a two-year contract extension last month that ties him to the club until the end of 2020, spent the last part of his time away from the club trekking the Kokoda Trail with his wife and two sons.
“It was an incredible trip. We all hear the stories when others go over about how challenging it is, so to be able to do that with my two sons and my wife was just a terrific experience,” Richardson said.
“It’s something we wanted to do as a family for a while. There are some great things that happen to your family when you’re a coach, but there’s really some compromises at times in terms of the quality time.
“So this was no phones, no social media, there was nothing but spending a lot of time with each other so that was valuable.

Well I guess the Diggers had to cope without such things. So good on Richo for at least replicating SOME of the conditions faced by our servicemen.

Like when tourists were complaining that there weren’t enough bins at Gallipoli to discard of empty beer cans... you can’t help but feel a little uneasy

This was on the news on the weekend and Richo revealed he forgot it was his and his wife's anniversary whilst there.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

People can doubt or criticise him as a coach if they wish, but you can't do the same for him as a parent, father, citizen and human being.
I still think he is a good coach btw too!!

Re: Good effort Richo
It is quite an experience.WellardSaint wrote:No phones?

I walked it in 7 days in 2005 at age 52. I am an office worker so it was hard to get ready for it.
It is very very hard. The track is extremely steep. 90% of the track is either going up a mountain or down the other side. The slope is often 30 or 40 degrees. And up at 5am every day and walk till 6pm. And no recovery time. After the first morning I was always buggered. Some of the time I was past exhaustion. I was walking one step and then taking three breaths and then the next step. This was for hours.
Wellard, there are no phones. It is mountainous jungle. If you get injured they carry you.
I would have loved to do it with my family but that was not possible. It would have been an amazing experience for Richo. They will remember it forever. Well done.
Nothing better than a good Dad Joke.

Re: Good effort Richo
An Aussie lady I met in Nepal recently did this last year with 9 other women. Rain, mud, mossies etc. Said it was extremely tough but a great experience. People have said to me that it should be my next adventure but I'm happy to stick with rocks and the cold thank you very much lol.
The guides with Richo would've had sat phones I'm sure for an emergency. The trek guides in Nepal all had them

A R. seems like a healthy minded guy. I was also impressed with his journey to the Himalayas (was it last year?).
He seems to keep himself open to new influences/experiences.
Good luck Richo.

A phone is as useful as a clipboard in those places.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Hopefully Richardson is a better coach than he is a person.

On many routes it will just be normal mobiles now. On my last trip to ABC it was very noticeable on how much coverage was available now.stevie wrote:. The trek guides in Nepal all had them

Yeah true the head guide would check the weather for the next day on his phone. They may have had sat phones in with the emergency gear. The teams who climb the big peaks would definitely have themsaintsRrising wrote:On many routes it will just be normal mobiles now. Re: Good effort Richo
I like Richo as a person and I admire his family values. But to be honest - I absolutely hated him on 360 this year. He's a cliche/adjective machine and it does nothing for him nor the club (image-wise) having him on there. Maybe his shirt collar sponsors are happy with it but, I actually couldn't watch him after about R10 - it's pretty cringeworthy IMHOSaints94 wrote:Richo seems pretty fit for a guy his age.
Hopefully he is on 360 in 2018.

I would like to disagree with you there but I can't 'cause the mods might accuse me of " aggravating the community."

However on 360, many a time he would show he’s more of a thinker about the game. He would mention things like an interpretation of a rule, a tactic a certain opposition player used on a player, and some very small things most don’t pick up on - then motor mouth; Scott (Geelong) would agree and run with it, and Richo and the 2 panel members would have to just let Scott rattle on.
If you watched the panel members closely Gerard Whately (? spelling) would listen intently to whatever comments Richo made & usually his more in-depth questions were directed at Richo firstly. I think he realised Scott, was too much like a politician could & go all around the world in reply to a question but not answer it at all, or cunningly turn the context of the question around.
Listen & watch AR carefully, he’s a reflective thinker who doesn’t appear to have the skills to immediately put his thoughts into words in an interesting or entertaining manner. Sad really that the world only think the talkers have some worthwhile to say and not the listeners. People want entertainers these days, not ideas. Yeah, Nah

Richo the thinker - Yes thank you
Seconded. I'd much prefer a genuine thinker and straight A student of the game than an entertainer.
The players will keep us happy if they're entertaining in the right way.
Hoping AR has his best year yet.
. . . and he's just a nice guy - plenty enough entertainment there for me.
