Re: Logan Austin
Logan was not valued at his club because they didnt need him and...whatever we dont know.
Its a guess. He has had only a few good games but IF he was amazeballs why trade him for chips? Looking at his stats he just barely passes. I watched him play against Demons and he was awful.
But he is young. He can learn off his twin Brown who is a soldier - doesnt get cudos or many stats but can be useful.
His injuries and very slow recovery blurred his star shining at Port. If he does really recover and regain his speed we could have a good player. But I'm not holding my breath. Port DID NOT get rid of a player fully recovered ready to start in the 22. We need a back up so I'm hoping he is ready and has a good preseason.

Re: Logan Austin
This kid hasnt had an uninterrupted preseason since being drafted and suffered groin and shoulder injuries in his first year.
In 2016, he got the better of Cloke, Griffith and Vickery, Petrie, Patton and Hogan and did ok on Lynch in his first 11 games, so he got beaten by Pavlich, he is in good company there and he was outwieghed by Redpath.
He went down in his 11th game with an ankle injury in the last game of 2016.
2017 he had a slow start and he struggled to get his place and 2016 form at full back back.
On the positive side, he put on nearly 10kg and grew 5cm while all this was happening.
He now faces a full preseason and looks cherry ripe to take the next step. He wrestles gorillas, moves well and has a good kick. Takes a few marks too. He works hard and is a very capable reboubder and reader of the play and is a real team player with a thirst to get into the play whenever he can. Sound like we got this one right so far.
Bgood luck son and welcome to the Saints.

When did he best Hogan? Not 2016...the first Demons game Hogan had 7 scoring shots and mega marks...the second game Hogan did play poorly but Logan had 0 contested possessions, 0 contested marks, 6 pressure acts ( only 2 players had less) and 2 intercept possessions. Did I miss a game?

I concede that he 'blanketed' Hogan. Based on the effectiveness and role objective, its a win.

A very good young footballer and one of the best that Canberra has produced in the last few years along with Jack Steele and Josh Bruce.Saw him play as a junier playing alongside one of my grandsons and was very impressed.DJ Higgins wrote:More a glass is too big kind of guy. I never heard of him before this week, an I doubt most other people hadn't either & Port let him go for two fifths of f@%k all so they obvious don't rate him. says it all. Doesn't stand out at SAFL and not good enough for powers top 22. Only get him if it really cheap and as a back up player for injured players. I would rather not get another list clogger
Also has good leadership qualities and a good solid family background. We could have done a lot worse.

Hinkley and Richardson are best mates. I doubt one would try to pull a shifty on the other. A little like when Lyin coached us and Roos was at the Ducks. Didn't that help us get one of Schneider or Dempster?

Re: Logan Austin
1. Austin is contracted for 2018.
2. Power says they will help players move for more opportunities.
I suggest Power let him go because
- they have enough of his type? (Like we have too many rucks)
-they want to save $$ as Saints will pay Power the 2018 salary
Nothing to do with 'not up to it'
I say it's $$ as well as he's not part of their planning as they have Curley (?) etc
He might be a young Delaney i.e. just a GOP stopper, or he might be the perfect back-up for Goddard and might even displace him.

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Re: Logan Austin
We lost Fisher and ultimately Dempster who was playing out of his division at full back - as were Roberton and Gilbert in Fisher's absence with injury
And we gained Carlisle and Brown
Goddard has only managed 9 games to date - so the jury is still out
The sum result was no added depth which meant no other options other than again using Roberton and Gilbert out of their division
Hence 196cm and a defender attracted
A bit like Dawson did in days gone by
So it is a List Management decision - and you could also include that 7 and 8 will not be used on key defenders including because they may be scarce
If you like, he effectively replaces Coghlan
