Re: Saints a chance for pick 2 and 21
The issue is the class difference between the top 3 or 4 and the rest of the top 10. We could get one gun or two good players. I think we have enough 'good' players don't we?
We missed out on Dusty, Fyfe and Kelly. Maybe we can grow our own?

Re: Saints a chance for pick 2 and 21
Don't get the trade for 2 and 21... it's supposed to be a shallow draft .. so why would we want a 21 pick, that is likely to be about a player of about pick 30 or so in a strong draft??
I reckon in such an even draft we will score two rippers at 7 and 8, there's a good chance Collingwood will go key position at 6 ball we may even end up with the best player.. I think the club should keep both picks (unless someone is willing to pay way overs

Re: Saints a chance for pick 2 and 21
Terry Wallace discussed it on AFL Trade Radio, Terry is an ITK, he probably broke the story.parkeysainter wrote:Just a whisper floating around. It could happen. Apparantly Freo has to come out to play though to make it happen. They want pick 2 for Wellar but GC still want pick 7 or 8 in this three way trade/swap.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Hopefully it happens,
Freo would be mad to knock back pick 7 & sweetener for a guy who will walk next year for bugger all.

Could have got the second best kid in the land, and Jack Watts and a later draft pick as the punt with pick 21.supersaints wrote:Don't get the trade for 2 and 21... it's supposed to be a shallow draft .. so why would we want a 21 pick, that is likely to be about a player of about pick 30 or so in a strong draft??

But no..... that would have taken some foresight.

Yeah. True. You never how it will pan out.doggerel wrote:or the next Jono O'Rourke...parkeysainter wrote:A pick 2 mid....we're potentially looking at the next Chris Judd or Dustin Martin being at the Saints.
But it could be a Judd or Hodge. That is the draft.

Re: Saints a chance for pick 2 and 21
Gold Coast presently has picks
2 = 2517
21 = 878
24 = 785
26 = 729
37 = 483
54 = 220
St Kilda presently has picks
7 = 1644
8 = 1551
45 = 347
59 = 158
63 = 112
Plus a need to consolidate picks 59 and 63 into earlier picks
First we should remember that Fremantle has pick 5 = 1878
A trade of picks 2 and 5 would cost Gold Coast 639 points for Lachie Weller
But Fremantle will want more.
Pick 8 alone would net Fremantle 1,551 points for Weller
If Gold Coast were to trade pick 2 for picks 7 & 8 St Kilda would want at least 678 points in return.
Gold Coast could offer pick 26 = 729 points
This increases their cost for Weller.
But if St Kilda could try to offload picks 63 to improve to pick 24 or both picks 59 & 63 to improve to pick 21.
However I doubt Gold Coast will be keen to own these late picks.
BUT most crucial of all it has to be signed sealed and delivered before 2PM Thursday.
Lets hope or team show great wisdom whatever they do.

I must say I like the idea of getting either Raynor or Davies-Uniacke.
We need to add elite players. We have too many good players.

It remains the best option for us now. Having missed out on the other elite options, we need to draft our own.

Are we getting too focussed on pick numbers? We have a #1 in Paddy, who we can't seem to get on the field, and after all our very high picks over the last few decades, we still haven't won a premiership. We really need some shrewd, smart recruiting and dare I say.. risk-taking

Yep. Freo wouldn't come to play apparantly. Bloody Ross Lyon.
