"Is this the right room for an argument?"
"I told you once."
"No, you didn't."
"Yes, I did."
"Listen, an argument isn't just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says, it's a series of statements designed to support a particular conclusion."
"No, it isn't."
"Oh, I've had enough of this."

Good back up option. Will cost peanuts. Id say if we fail to get talia or aistin then mitch brown it is. And hea only a backup if nathan brown goes down. Everyone relax its a good move IF we cant get talia/Austin

Con Gorozidis wrote:Bains didn't do anything last year.
Hawks were desperate for JOM and needed out pick 10 to get him.
Bains just had to sit there.
If the Hawks finished top 4 then it wouldn't have been a good deal.
1/ Not that I am Bains biggest fan by any means, but this was a very good deal.
2/ Bains approached the Hawks ....so it was not just him "sitting there".
2/ It would still a good deal if the Hawks had finished higher. Pick 10 gained us 2 second rounders and a first rounder this year that was always going to be within the top 14. The Pick 68 we traded had no value for us. And looking what other clubs too from about pick 60 on, no value to anyone.
So IMO that trade was a win for Bains. The only negative is that having had a clear win like this in 2017, that he may be sitting back trying to pounce again with a value pick or player trade, rather than just dealing to get a player that we really need.

All this criticism of Bains I find quite disgusting and completely baseless.
The guy is part of the management of the club that has turned the club from a basket case to one that will make the finals next year.
I don't give a toss what some posters think, I am a fan . 100%

Bains is a gun in his role. End of story and its widely recognised in AFL circles.
It has been go over before as to why so no need to flog a dead horse.
He is an A grade asset for the club.

Bains did nothing????? What is this crap? Spoken by morons who have no idea about negotiation.
Bains hasnt made trades because theres been no VALUE!!! Bains gets value. Not his fault if heres NO VALUE. Understand that most of the time better to say no.
7,8, Brown/Talia or Austin. Deal. Its good. Then next year sloane is FA FFS. And we still havemt spent money.
Bonar and Brayshaw for me please.

Look, the "hype" around Baines is way over the top. It's inaccurate to claim he's a guru/master. He's a trained lawyer/banker, who happened to be in the legal team at Toyota (hence AFL exposure) after he made it into Minter Ellison.
But you know what? Good on him. He's a really nice guy.
He's landed his dream job, getting paid huge money to do it, and rather than scouring the fine print over corporate trade deals looking for mistakes, St KIlda flies him around the country attending draft camps, looking at new players and choosing which players should be paid under the salary cap.
He also gets to put his head into the media, which raises his profile. He's a lock to go for bigger things in the AFL, and I think he would make an excellent head of Multicultural Affairs.
Is he that good at what he does for us? Difficult to say. Take a look at the optics and judge for yourself.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

'Everyone in the AFL' must marvel at our finishes of 18th, 16th, 9th and 11th under Bains. How they must look on in awe at our magnificence.
They are all so envious and aghast of the masterful mgt display!
They must all wonder what our secret is!
When we were we a 'basket case'? We played finals in 2011. We have been dog s*** ever since. Sure we have improved but the AFL has an equalisation policy and a draft to assist sides in the bottom 5.
Read about it here:
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-06-04/e ... -explained
Bains and Co have done nothing more than be bog average. Some of the contract decisions have been complete howlers. Claiming he is a 'master' is just embarrassing. Especially when you consider the Swans and Cats have played finals almost 10 years in a row.
We havent played finals in the last 6 seasons in a row.
Not sure what people are crowing about.

Little bit of insight Saynta... you're one of the nastier supporters on this forum I've come across when it comes to talking about players
As for Jaxons...
McEvoy trade
Carlisle (picks as suggested)
And there was one other that escapes my mind that he broke before then news came out.
On Haynes, Jax never said he was coming... just that he was interested and as he has repeatedly posted all along... We will likely take pick 7&8 to the draft. He said that at the start. What fake news did you want him to report.

Ameet Bains said the other day that Tomlinson wants to come home but GWS aren't interested in trading. Players may want something but it doesn't always work out.

Have to agree with Con.
The jury is still out on Ameet Bains and the entire recruiting squad. But it's been out for an awful long time.
If we vault into the finals in 2018 and thereafter snag a flag (or two) the verdict will be positive.
If we sink to the bottom of the ladder next year (as seems very possible) then we'll need to rebuild all over again and the Bains years will have been a complete waste of time.
