Whisper is we're a massive chance to land him still. Just passing it on.

I've heard that too, ps. The "deal" is far from dead, apparently.parkeysainter wrote:Whisper is we're a massive chance to land him still. Just passing it on.
"Is this the right room for an argument?"
"I told you once."
"No, you didn't."
"Yes, I did."
"Listen, an argument isn't just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says, it's a series of statements designed to support a particular conclusion."
"No, it isn't."
"Oh, I've had enough of this."
"No you haven't"
"Oh shut up."

Re: Barrett claiming Saints have tabled a deal for Tomlinson
from what Jaxons said (trade does not involve 7 or 8), but that we are interested and he may want to come, which is consistent with media rumblings, it seems like we put the 2018 2nd rounder on the table for him and GWS said he is not for trade.. and the stand-off stays there for nowsupersaints wrote:Not sure it should be closed....... yetCon Gorozidis wrote:Just close this thread.

If this is true, I think there is still a chance GWS will end up accepting 2018 second rounder at the end of the trade period, they are keen on next years pool (as are many it seems).. But first they will assess what they have lost and gained during the trades and how their list looks
Summary: would be happy if we have indeed offered 2018 2nd and that we stick to it and dont get drawn into offering more such as downgrading 8 to 11 for this years draft

Re: Barrett claiming Saints have tabled a deal for Tomlinson
Seriously.
If Tomlinson or Haynes wanted to come to the Saints they would say so publicly and the Giants would be obliged to do the deal. They haven’t.
Being open to the idea of a trade is inot the same as wanting to come to a club.
Neither have said anything publicly. This is a bit of theatre.iI’m sure we are interested in both. Wanting ain’t the same as getting. I know a lot of stuff goes on behind the scenes ibut almost always that only happens when a player says the wants a trade. We have nothing but silence from Haynes and Tolinson.
i think the silence says everything but ..,,I also hope i’m completely wrong. Would love to get either.

Re: Barrett claiming Saints have tabled a deal for Tomlinson
my guess is players will become more canny in trade period keeping cards close to chest, and we will see a move away from nomination except in more determined circumstances.
there's nothing to gain nominating a club into public domain when players can look a fool when something falls through aka Gibbs, Stringer. The trading-out club may feel restricted by the nomination and be less likely to trade favourably leading to a disadvantage all-round.
if we went after Tomlinson two years ago without success, it wouldn't surprise me if the nature of a new negotiation was low key and laconic, with any party especially the player wanting to look a total spud if nothing happens.
we'll see I suppose.

Re: Barrett claiming Saints have tabled a deal for Tomlinson
All the dominoes will fall around midday next Thursday. Most of the deals are done in the last two hours and there's always a surprise or two. The circus should be trimmed to one week. I suppose all this coverage of nothing keeps the AFL in the media while there's nothing else to see.

Re: Barrett claiming Saints have tabled a deal for Tomlinson
Problem her is that Billy is probably more to their style. No chance of getting Tomlinson with a second rounder unless they get a player they want.older saint wrote:If they are clearing cap space how about Hickey and pick 2nd rounder ( need to obtain one) for tomlinson
They want a ruck as Mummy on way out and Lobe got killed in final. Patton cant ruck so big hole there.
Saints now seen to be less preferred as a destination club than they were 2 years ago!
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
