Sam Collins worth a shot
I think rather than look at trying to bring Tomlinson into the club and possibly having to part with Pick 7 or 8, we have a serious look at Sam Collins, who was recently delisted by Freo.
Just reading this article, it seems to me that he wasn't given a go at Freo and could be a good player if given a second chance. He's 192 cm, he played most of this year at full back for Peel Thunder and was voted their best player 6 times this year, which us unheard of as a full back. I see him as more than adequate cover for Brown / Carlisle should one of them go down next year, and we don't have to sell the farm for him as we'd pick him up for nothing.

Re: Sam Collins worth a shot
Then again he is only 192 cm and Tom Lee was smashing it in the WAFL at FF and FB....
So I am not sure that he is key position material at AFL level and so do we need another so so tall flanker?

Though we only have so many spots on the list, whether it be the main list or rookie list.Con Gorozidis wrote:Only 23 years old. Get him for nothing. Minimum wage.

We have to use three picks in the draft and at the moment we only have three vacancies on the main list and maybe one on the rookie list.saintsRrising wrote:Though we only have so many spots on the list, whether it be the main list or rookie list.Con Gorozidis wrote:Only 23 years old. Well at present we have 7 and 8. Leaves one. So is he the best available for our next pick? I think probably not.saynta wrote:We have to use three picks in the draft and at the moment we only have three vacancies on the main list and maybe one on the rookie list.saintsRrising wrote:Though we only have so many spots on the list, whether it be the main list or rookie list.Con Gorozidis wrote:Only 23 years old. Rookie. Well only one spot and I think there is not real need to use it on a third tall.

I think Nate Brown is almost cooked. If Carlisle goes down we are stuffed.
Are we really going to keep the five Ruckmen on the list?

Has anyone actually seen him play?
And if you have what are his strengths and weaknesses ?

Solid player. Recruited from Box Hill. Reads the ball well. Good mark.Junior wrote:Has anyone actually seen him play?

Weaknesses. Probably athleticism. Not a great rebounder.

It does not look good for Holmes.saynta wrote:We have to use three picks in the draft and at the moment we only have three vacancies on the main list and maybe one on the rookie list.saintsRrising wrote:Though we only have so many spots on the list, whether it be the main list or rookie list.Con Gorozidis wrote:Only 23 years old. He probably was left on the list uncontracted in the hope another club might take him or another of our ruckmen.

not sure Browny is almost cooked, played a fair few games last year and did pretty well, but if the above is true enough, then surely we need a more proven prospect?Con Gorozidis wrote:I think Nate Brown is almost cooked. If Carlisle goes down we are stuffed.

from what I've read and watched, don't think Collins or Talia are right. the recruiters are right to target better long term prospect now in someone like Tomlinson or Haynes (kpd stocks).

Matthew Scarlett was 192cm and he wasn't too shabby as a tall flanker!

Yes and Trevor Barker was short too, as was Max.outside66 wrote:saintsRrising wrote:Then again he is only 192 cm and Tom Lee was smashing it in the WAFL at FF and FB....

However I doubt that Collins is going to be as good as any of them.
He was touted as being a KPP. From what I have read he would not be up to this at AFL level based on lack of talent and height.
Personally at present I want mids, mids and mids. But yes am ok if they back up the key defender role. I do not see much value in a third tall back though when have Robbo, Gilbo, Wright, Webster....

Re: Sam Collins worth a shot
Most sites have him listed as 194cm, similar to Nathan Brown.
On researching his first season with Freo in 2016, it shows that he played 12 games for the year, all in the last half of the season.
His Supercoach points over this period were acceptable, with scores of 100 against Essendon, 126 against Collingwood and 92 in the last round against GWS.
He finished the season with an average Supercoach points total of 72.
It appears that Lyon didn't give him any opportunities in 2017, as he played only 2 games, despite winning Peel Thunders best and fairest as well as being B.O.G. in 6 games, despite playing at fullback.
Definitely worth looking at IMO.

What does that mean? Call their managers?
No point talking about Tomlinson or Haynes unless we can actually realistically get them.

Re: Sam Collins worth a shot
We last overlooked a 192 cm defender who's gone on to go ok. Say hello to Kyle Hartigan. We passed. Adelaide didn't. He's going ok, isn't he? There are potential opp. shop bargains everywhere. Imagination, sainters.
