Barrett claiming Saints have tabled a deal for Tomlinson
5 years
GWS have also offered him 5 years.
A very good player imo.
Do we believe this one?

Wouldn't be a surprise. The surprise will be if he breaks his contract to accept ours. Hopefully straight swap for pick 8.

Had 26 disposals 7 marks and 5 tackles in his last game the Prelim Final.
A good size lad but probably not future fullback material.

Although I can't stand the four eyed popsicle head, Barret mostly gets the inside info on this sort of stuff and is reliable.
We should go hard for Tomlinson. Future 1st rounder would do. Very good player and versatile. He just played in a prelim side. Reminds me of that bloke at Geelong a bit - Lachie Henderson.

Re: Barrett claiming Saints have tabled a deal for Tomlinson
I think giving a 1st round pick for him would be negligent though, esp if he reminds people of Henderson. He's a nice player sure but I think we need to look at maximising our top 10 picks by getting guns. Either by backing our recruiters or by getting a current or up and coming top liner. I don't think a 24-25yo Tomlinson fits those molds. 2nd rd pick maybe.parkeysainter wrote:Although I can't stand the four eyed popsicle head, Barret mostly gets the inside info on this sort of stuff and is reliable.

Does this mean we'll still go after Talia?

Yeah. Maybe a 1st is too much. It's a hard one as he's a good player but not A grade +.realdeal wrote:I think giving a 1st round pick for him would be negligent though, esp if he reminds people of Henderson. Let's take both. Talia would be cheap as chips and can be picked up as a delisted FA for nothing I believe.

Hopefully not for picks 7 or 8, really want to see more midfield class, either by trade or draft.

Plough reckons pick 8 is right. He was originally a pick 9 and the years of development are done.parkeysainter wrote:Yeah. Maybe a 1st is too much. I would be more excited if his GWS contract did have two more seasons to run.St Loxton wrote:

Re: Barrett claiming Saints have tabled a deal for Tomlinson
Sorry but this does not make sense.
We have signalled our interest in Tomlinson for some time.
So it is not new to say we want him.
But....when he knew we, and other clubs were interested, he signed for two years with the Giants.
So all of a sudden he's unhappy and wants to leave?
I know money talks but where is the evidence from him or his manager he wants to come to the Saints? Where is the evidence that the Giants would entertain such a deal?
Fabulous if we get him. Pretty big/huge 'if'

Reported on trade radio then reported 5 minutes later by the Trade Whisperer who said it was a scoop.

Word on Bigfooty is GWS have to make some salary cap space so are offering a few players around.damienc wrote:Sorry but this does not make sense.

so why sign him for 2 years then decide they can't afford him?
Can't they use a budget spreadsheet?
2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

...ummm one thing you've seem to have overlooked, something that may have thrown their salary cap calculations out somewhat...

Barret reliable? Don't make me laugh. He usually sprouts crap from both ends.parkeysainter wrote:Although I can't stand the four eyed popsicle head, Barret mostly gets the inside info on this sort of stuff and is reliable.

Re: Barrett claiming Saints have tabled a deal for Tomlinson
If they are clearing cap space how about Hickey and pick 2nd rounder ( need to obtain one) for tomlinson
They want a ruck as Mummy on way out and Lobe got killed in final. Patton cant ruck so big hole there.

Re: Barrett claiming Saints have tabled a deal for Tomlinson
Firstly GWS have said they are not in the market for established players and their future strategy is to use the Draft - no doubt also because their salary cap is tight as they look to maintain their squad
So, given that announced strategy why would they look to offload a quality footballer with multiple years left to run on his contract?
They would have done their sums and they will know who they want to keep - and are therefore on long term contracts
We need to improve our bottom 6 - and address leg speed and skill both forward and back
The skilled mid we sought is not coming - so we have to continue to develop our own from our List and top 10 Draft choices including Freeman
We use 7 and 8 accordingly
Absent a Martin or a Kelly they are not for trading

Re: Barrett claiming Saints have tabled a deal for Tomlinson
Why the obsession with getting rid of Hickey?
That leaves a log in Longer plus Holmes and Pierce
And Marshall is no where near an AFL ruck, as are not Holmes or Pierce
Hopefully a fit and firing Hickey will return to 2016 form in 2018
We saw the benefit of winning the hit outs in the Grand Final with Richmond rucking who they did and Nankervis offsetting Jacobs around the ground
Richmond conceded significant ruck contests
So around the ground and marking are the requirement
There were some ball ups where Richmond did not even contest

Re: Barrett claiming Saints have tabled a deal for Tomlinson
Tomlinson is a top quality young KPD.
Tough to argue with pick 8 for him.
Few directions we could go though.
Pick 8 for Gaff
Pick 7 & 8 for Pick 1 and a third round pick
Got to say that the last is a real tempter . ..using the Hawthorn pick to get an exceptional player from the start.
Probably it would be the best use of it, but he would want to be elite.
