Re: How many others are dissapointed by this result ?
Tex was kicking goals from 60 metres during the year and he was struggling to make the distance from 40 out today. That was symbolic for me that Adelaide as a group were spent before they arrived today. I think some of them had played the game in their heads before they arrived because they didn't have the run and energy that has been their mantra.
Don't know if the emotion of the last couple of years and even the tragedy with Jacob's brother finally caught up with them and drained them of energy, or whether they drank a fair bit of of their own bathwater this week back in their home town or whether the fact that they ultimately had to travel and had to play away from their own backyard.
Must admit I'm pretty envious of all the flag winners after what we've been through in the last 20 years of being so close. Always dissapointing watching fans from other teams celebrate

What do you think the result would have been if the GF had been in Adelaide. Richmond had a huge (unfair) advantage simply in satisfaction of a b......t arrangement with the MCC pandering to members who are signed up before the genes have left the hard on.

ME!!! Totally. When you are old enough to remember five grand finals - no wins - just 4 losses and a draw ... it hurts big time. Tigers have played what ? One final in 20 years ... bounce into finals and win the big one. Bulldogs do it in 2017. Soooooo jealous. As I said to my wife today when I turned off telly (couldn't stand to watch the Tiger army) ... for over 50 years I've had to watch other teams win on GF day and I'm sick of it. For us old blokes and gals we've craved that winning feeling and to celebrate. I don't want to be 80 or even 70 when and if it happens. There is no way I will watch 'Tiger' celebrations. Still think some luck went there way ... no injuries .... 3 games at the MCG ... played a weakened Giants and injured Cats. Gee what happned to the powerful Crows? Shattered. Does that answer your question. PS Bloody Jack R now has a premiership medal and not NICK! How wrong is that?

I think with the new stadiums in Adelaide and Perth the MCG contract is now unfair.

Re: How many others are dissapointed by this result ?
I''m disappointed we took our foot off their throat in Round 18. We could have finished their season then and there. Instead we won by a mere 67 points.
I guess we can take heart from the fact that our best is as good as anyone's. We just need to find it consistently.
I put their premiership down to momentum, some luck, confidence, and the extraordinary season of Dustin Martin. It's his premiership really. Rance can play a bit also.
We don't have a Dusty, granted, but that aside I can't see anything that says we couldn't match their efforts if the planets were to align over the next few seasons. We've a more even spread of talent.

It's the same old story- the best TEAM wins the premiership, and it happened again. Richmond simply strangled the strengths of the Crows. Every Tiger player did their part in a team effort. Great tactical coaching.
We need to improve across the board and definitely improve our bottom 6.

Re: How many others are dissapointed by this result ?
Richmond finished third but not only played all of their games on their home ground, but two were home state finals as well. That was the "luck" of the draw. They got the ultimate "dream run." Imagine if Geelong had finished above Adelaide. No such "luck" for us in 2004 (our best team of the era) when we were surrounded by interstate teams.
In the 1960s, Richmond "stole" premierships that our team of the era should have won. This was due to their move to the MCG (which was very smart). Anyone who thinks home ground has no advantage needs to acquaint themselves with the statistics (almost 70% of wins are to home teams). Additionally, anyone who thinks home state has no advantage is similarity "statistically" challenged. Of course, we did manage to lose a home state final in 2005, one of the less than 20% of results that have gone that way. We also managed to lose a home state, home ground final (also to the Swans) in 2011 (one of the less that 10% of results that have gone that way). The Saints seem to exist to provide the one example to counter the statistics.
Adelaide lost yesterday because they fumbled the ball from the outset. By way of example, Tom Lynch played like he did in the red, white and black. And, Richmond had the two best players in the AFL, Martin and Rance - who was easily the most important player on the ground in my view but backmen seem to be ignored by those who are mesmerised by midfielders and their statistics. Adelaide scored just 8 goals (c.f.average for the year 15) and that's why Richmond won.

Absolute rubbish to suggest the umpires influenced the result.....onya Curly, finding umpiring conspiracies even when the Saints aren't playing.
Tigers were all over them like a rash. Too much pressure all over the ground. 22 contributors. Barely sighted Lynch, Jenkins, Betts and various others. Sloane had a poor second half.
I don't begrudge them at all. If anything them winning gives me more hope. If the Dogs can do it from 7th and Tigers from 13th the year before, why can't we? Happy for various mates of mine who are life long Richmond fans, feeling the same passion for their club we have for the Saints.
Would much rather teams who haven't drunk from the well for a long time get some water than it just being a roundabout of Geelong, Sydney, Hawthorn etc.......

Congrats to the Tigers.
This win has made me dislike Ross Lyon even more than ever. In 2009 his bloody stupid bubble and defensive game plan and overall negative mindset cost us a flag.
Two years in a row with far inferior sides in the Bulldogs and Tigers they have been positive and embraced their supporters and been successful.
Lyon is the most overrated coach of all time and I honestly believe his negative approach cost us. Let's hope if we ever get there again we can be positive and enjoy it.

Lots of us older supporters feel the same way. Bloody sick of the Club stuffing up and squandering years and players. I hope they read this forum, and take something away from it.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Another year, another bog average premier.
Here's the premiership forecast
2018 Melbourne, 2019 Essendon, 2020 north, then GWS, freo and Gold Coast will be armchair lifted into winning their first flags.
If I ever run into the 'footy god', he/she is going to need a very good dental surgeon afterwards.

Betts kicks that goal and then Richmond need to start thinking about protecting/saving the game instead of taking risks...
Again though, I bring it back to the rain... the crows style doesn't hold up well to the wet and I reckon they were always claw their way back and pbly run away with it.

Lyon is a one-trick pony. Don't forget that in the 2009 GF our forward line got beaten on the day, and we put in a pathetic performance in the 2010 replay with no one stepping up. Poor on-field leadership by the more experienced players.1966 wrote:Congrats to the Tigers.
