Yep, a second round pick will secure you a contracted 25 year old AA wingman

Thought he was older than 25,pick 8 and maybe change later picks would be ok.Especially if at 25 should have 4-5 years left
Yep, 8 + 43 + 57 for Gaff + 28 + 65
The advantage for WCE is he is a unrestricted FA next year so maximize their return now.
That's what any normal club would do but they would probably want 7 and a player

My point being he's not worth pick 7 or 8 by a long shot and he's not in the top 30 midfielders in the AFL

The only mid on our list that is the equal of Gaff is Jack Steven and Gaff is easily in the best 30 mids in the league.
Do you think we could draft a player who (barring injury) will play the next 6 seasons at A grade level?

We might draft the next Dangerfield or the next Caden Bentham with #8, who knows.

Caden Bentham, was he any better than Caydn Beetham who played for St Kilda from 2000 until quitting at the end of 2002 probably as a result of Scheuermann's disease.

With the addition of Henry Playfair to our coaching ranks should we be Turing our attention to the swans list. Often coaches or list managers can bring over talent from their old club based on close relationships/mentoring...?? Not to mention Mclin is with us also.

My feeling is that our big fish may be Luke Parker.
For some reason he had a shocking season. Has signed to 2021.
Sydney would feel they are in a semi rebuild. 7-8 for Parker and Sydneys pick 14.

Pick 14 our future first and Bruce for Tom Lynch

Just a pipe dream and no sources whatsoever but would make our team look very good..?

I'm bit worried the saints might throw kitchen sinks to get gaff
Hes ok but I want more for one of my top ten picks
Consider the three clubs involved here west coast, vs stkilda, hawthorn all three at similar ladder position west coast will do their best to drive a hard deal. Which they should. At worst hawthorn just weakens us by driving the price up with chips they don't have (or I assume they don't have)
.rockcliffe would have been "cheaper" in that regard and he impacts the score board a lot more than gaff

A longtime poster on the WCE page has called it

'Trade will be Gaff and pick 13 for picks 7 and 8.'

we would most likely use pick 13 for Haynes.

So Gaff and Haynes would be great additions. Good trading if this gets done

Also explains the quietness on Haynes...that deal doesn't get done till the gaff one does.

What a load of crap.
The Saints are required to have three picks in the draft.

The west coast supporter is f****** dreaming.

And significant mental health issues that were simply not understood then. Went on to have a fine career in the Amos and the suburbs. Shame, he coulda been a contender.

Gaff!?! Has he ever earnt a kick in his life???

I have nothing against 'outside running players', but every single player must also be able to win his own footy. That's a non-negotiable for me! If today's GF is tight, once again it will be proven that soft outside receivers go missing in high stakes, high pressure games.

Gaff!?! A big NO from me!

Good players , don't get me wrong. But I'm not sold. If we get these two guys that means we have to be hitting the window now, or in the next year or two... a window that stays open for a couple more years... say 2022-ish, yet if we go to the draft get some young guys, we hit our peak in two three years time and the window stays open for 5+ years. For me it's a question of a bit more short term pain for long term gain. No guarantees obviously, but it just makes more sense to me... thoughts?

I'm a fan off Gaff and would love to get him but two top ten picks is way overs, even with 13 coming back.
Using 8 on its own is a big call but worthwhile. That's a Kelly sort of deal not Gaff.

Agree

If we give up more than pick 8, we're overpaying.

And why not actually post the posters forum name etc. or normally if you just reply with a quote on the other forum(but do not hit post) you can copy it and then pst that here.

I can see
boondy, post: 52749449, member: 149792 wrote:Trade will be Gaff and pick 13 for picks 7 and 8 .
Which I would still be excited about.
Darcy Fogarty and Clarke would be nice
though he has only been posting since Nov 2015. So if him, hardly longtime...

Plus i would take that more as it is what he thinks the trade would be, rather than he KNOWS what it is.

If the club entertains that deal then the list managers should be sacked. Ridiculous. WCE fan needs to call Daryl Kerrigan.

So much guessing and rubbish speculation on here it is amazing.
Brace yourself that we will go to the draft with picks 7 & 8.
It is the correct strategy for long term success provided we draft wisely.

I like this. We could get two very good players with these picks. Unless we're getting a Dusty or Kelly via trade, sounds good to me.

It's a bit of a lottery though isn't it.

No guarantee at all, despite all due diligence, that a junior who looks the goods is going to step up into a quality player.

So the Haynes thing was a bit of a piss take in response to all the rubbish speculation? Wasn't sure but took it in good faith when you posted it.
