Re: 100,000 people booing as one
Judging from reports, Hird is a complete wreck. The whole saga has been his responsibility, his reputation has been destroyed, lord knows how its affected his family, he'll never get another gig in footy. Some may believe that he's paid the price for his hubris.

What if the winner declines to accept it on the day? Awkward silence.

Hard to see that happening. AFL have made a real balls of the whole thing really. Couldn't have happened to a nicer organisationYorkeys wrote:What if the winner declines to accept it on the day? Awkward silence.

How funny would it be if Sam Mitchell won the Norm Smith?
Pretty boy Turdy would shyte himself and would go AWOL for the presentation!
Anyway, I look forward to giving that cheating Doping scum a good serve when he gets on the dias. Deserves nothing less.
How is Walwrus face going to in introduce him I wonder?

Sam Mitchell ( God love him ) is about as likely to pick up a Norm Smith in this lifetime, as Matthew Guy turning down a dinner invitation from the mob

When Hird is announced, they should play any song from Johnny Diesel and the Injectorssaintspremiers wrote:How funny would it be if Sam Mitchell won the Norm Smith?

Re: 100,000 people booing as one
Hird has undoubtedly ruined his own reputation. His actions have brought nothing but shame and embarrassment to himself, and his family, as well as the Essendon Football Club. His lack of thought or consideration for the welfare of those players, borders on criminal. I have no doubt that he and his family have paid an enormous cost for his folly, and in many respects are continuing to pay that cost. The amazing thing about all this, is the manner in which Hird and the Essendon footy club have managed to paint themselves as "victims" of this saga.
In my humble opinion, to actively organise booing this person, just helps HIM to solidify his case of being "victim"
I think it would have been far better, to have "skipped" the 2000 winner and just gone on to the next person on the "former winners roster" to present this years medal. The AFL have SUCH a gift for phucking up!
I believe it would be far better for those wanting to protest, to organise an online petition to the AFL to withdraw this invitation, than to spoil the day of the Norm Smith Medallist by booing.

Re: 100,000 people booing as one
Here is the thing.
The AFL hq think fans are morons and easily influenced by media. Mostly they are right.
They think they can persuade the fans to forgive Hird and that it wasn't a big deal. Hey it was all just poor governance right?
That is the corporate message. They want to re-write history in this.
Noone should be dumb enough to believe this.
Hird believed he could cheat and he was untouchable.
Don't forget this.
The fans should boo big time.

Re: 100,000 people booing as one
I guess I think the AFL might bring about some closure with JH's official duty on grand final day. If the above reports about him being a mental wreck are true, then perhaps he has been punished enough, but a simple statement of contrition would perhaps assuage the negative feelings people hold.
For me it irritates the bejesus out of me that they rorted the salary cap big time in their 1993 premiership and surrounding years when the premiership should have been stripped from them. This should have exposed them all as frauds but the silverware remained in the cabinet. The drug cheating scandal left the club unpunished. I suppose the players suffered, but the club did not. Fines imposed were paid by the coterie group, legals as well too I assume, and they picked up the no. 1 draft pick, were handed a soft draw and played finals.
I wonder if our club had behaved the same way, what would have happened.
The media are truly vomit worthy, defending the indefensible and lauding their amazing Phoenix like rise. I just hope the players, when the EFC doped with a purportedly unknown product which was not harmful, do not in the future have significant health problems. The line that we don't know what they were given but we know what they were given was not harmful was swallowed hook, line and sinker by the media and those the chose to drink the cool aid.
Pretty sad really. Will I boo JH, well, no I really could not be bothered.

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Shane Martin hasn't earned the right to present the Norm Smith. Whether you like or hate James Hird he has definitely earned the right. Booing ppl, for me, is for umpires and cheap hits that occur during the game.Dave McNamara wrote:Ok, I think I see where you're coming from. So lets put it another way Moods. I wouldn't boo ANYONE who was asked to present the Norm Smith medal. Just cheapens the day and the persons winning awards the way I see it.

One bloke near us was booing with about 30 people including his mates looking at him and shaking their heads.
