In regards Longer, how many times did we kick to Longer, the ball hitting his cement hands and finishing in a contest.

Sorry, but in at least 50% of those continuing situations I would expect our Number 1 Ruck to actually take the mark and then use the ball to advantage by hand or by foot.

Longer just can not catch a ball.

He is a liability.

So when is Nick Haynes going to announce he's leaving? I would have expected an announcement with the other 3?

And what is it with Carlton and GWS? Why do GWS players want to play with such a s*** team???

What sort of magic dust is Silvagni selling to these players?

Must admit LF that I was firmly in the Hickey camp at the start of the season, and while I wouldn't write Hickey off as a player I agree that anyone who could not see Billy's development over the second half of the season must be wearing blinkers.

Longer moved from a center bounce competitor to a player with physical presence who contributed around the ground.
There is a reason the Club preferred him to Hickey this year and any talk of coach bias is ridiculous.

Billy has a long, long way to go to be a Gawn style influence on games but made significant improvement in 2017 and is headed the right direction. Similar progression of development in 2018 would see him become a valuable and influential player in 2019/20.

Big blokes take time to become overnight success stories.

To the top wrote:This site is what it is - and who contributes goodness knows

But there are some who seem to have some credentials - so at this time of the year you browse for information, acknowledging the absence of confirmation by player or Club

So, with Haynes, you take it with a grain of salt pending any confirmation by player or Club

But that is the information you browse for at this time

As for some of the other comment, it is just so rediculous that you would assess the contributors to be primary school age children

As an example, we trade Armitage who is a class and experienced performer for a side which has now lost the experience of Riewoldt and Montagna, we trade Acres and Dunstan, and Mc Cartin because he is a Type1 Diabetic, we trade Gilbert and we leave our ruck resources with the cumbersome liability Longer, who is not capable of taking a mark or getting a possession with back up being Holmes and Marshall

But we fete Geary and Longer and Minchington and Templeton

And of course, Freeman and Carlisle are dud recruits

Well, we need to look at the bench mark sides and assess against their resources plus the improvement they will make heading into 2018

To say we are aiming at a premiership in some future year is a nonsense

You are in the competition every year, as is every other Club

So you assess every year, reference to bench mark and add 20% for the improvement the benchmark sides will improve by

That is the competition

We currently have those players Drafted in the top 20 during the Richardson years, plus Carlisle and Freeman.

And trust some others seeking opportunity with us that was not on elsewhere outperform the expectations of their previous Clubs

Plus the experience of Steven, Armitage and Gilbert who are our core of experience now

Then we have Picks 7 and 8 this year, but that is the future

These are the reasons you look for a story re Haynes - and trust there is substance!
Do you realise Templeton no longer plays for the Saints???????
He played for us?
I only remember him at Footscray and Melbourne and kicking about 16:10 against us at Footscray on day in the mid 70's.

Tom Phillips from Collingwood? Surely you have to be joking.

If you look at the official AFL site,
Kennedy is believed to be going to Carlton
and Devon Smith is rumoured to be looking at Blues and Filth.
It's the season for rumours, dontcha know

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

If you win a premiership, your Best & Fairest is the biggest night of the year.

Trust me!!

You are feted like never before.

Otherwise it is what it is, because, as a team you were not good enough

So polite applause falling on deaf ears, and the utterance of platitudes about improvement to be competitive.

Duty done!!

Brownlow and Media votes are more relevant because they identify players with the capability to influence the result of a game.

IF Longer wins our B&F, which I gather some are of the opinion he will as the premier ruck of the competition with his palming to advantage, his mobility and his impact across the ground with his presence, marking abilities and capability with the ball in hand by both hand and foot, also presenting as an option particularly going forward, then that is a commentary of a side which finished where it did in 2017 and went backwards from 2016.

But then you go to the statistics - marks, kicks and handballs.

Then you go to opportunity to enhance those figures because we kicked to his presence and he was not capable of taking the mark or contributing to the winning of the ball.

So I watch a different game to some on here who obviously watch thru rose colored glasses.

And my opinion is that Longer is a liability, an opinion which may gain some further enhancement courtesy of the work of Jacobs tomorrow.

Because that will be the comparison given an Adelaide win and Adelaide being the benchmark, a benchmark we must aspire to to be successful.

Silvagni was at St Kilda.

Then GWS

And now at Carlton he is obviously instrumental in attracting GWS players to Carlton.

Not one media report or anything has the Saints linked to anyone.

Sure that will change come next week though. Hopefully the club is keeping everything behind closed doors and Ameet is working his magic.

West Coast are not easy to deal with.

We should just offer them pick 8.

We can always wait until 2019.

Take it or leave it.

We should somehow get a mid to late second rounder& offer that - take it or leave it

Fxxx them - they're like Essendon, Collingwood, etc
What did we get for Cripps ?
What did we get for Ball ?

There is a HUGE difference between players that are contracted and those that are not. Gaff is contracted. He can only leave the Weagles if they let him.

Yep, a second round pick will secure you a contracted 25 year old AA wingman

Thought he was older than 25,pick 8 and maybe change later picks would be ok.Especially if at 25 should have 4-5 years left

Yep, 8 + 43 + 57 for Gaff + 28 + 65
The advantage for WCE is he is a unrestricted FA next year so maximize their return now.
