Look, it's not lie the kid can't play and to be honest he seems like he has a decent attitude and is good enough to be on a list somewhere but what does he offer us?
An inconsistent player with amazing skills and suspect decision making that tends to play mid to forward
We only have...
Savage
Billings
Gresh
Acres

Re: Motlop
Motflop I call him.
But in reality is an elite player as he showed in Geelong's loss to Adelaide.
The problem is he only goes 100% so rarely.
You need guys who get you into finals before you get players who only put in 100% in finals.

True. We have consistent hardened champs like Weller. So no point getting someone as s*** and unreliable as Motflop. No need. Waste of a spot. He would be just playing at Sandy anyway.skeptic wrote:Look, it's not lie the kid can't play and to be honest he seems like he has a decent attitude and is good enough to be on a list somewhere but what does he offer us?

I doubt he would get a game in our side to be honest.

Apparantly Scott has come out publicly and wants him now.
So who wants him gone then at the Cats? Guess its the list manager.

But hey let's go with your strategy of recruit more of what we have... mmm how about another tap ruckman then and a half back flanker.
Maybe a small forward or two

Re: Motlop
Since we're not going to land a genuine superstar I think we need to focus on picking up 3 players who will genuinely improve our team. Motlop, Gaff, Haynes, Smith and Trengove would all do that. There haven't been any noises of us being after Smith or Trengove though and I can see that other teams might be a better fit for them.
I'd be thrilled if we could land Haynes and Gaff while still holding a first round pick this year and then pickup Motlop as a FA.
2018 Finals team
B: Geary, Brown, Webster
HB: Roberton, Carlisle, Haynes
C: Sinclair, Steele, Gaff
HF: Billings, Bruce, Motlop
F: Gresham, McCartin, Membrey
Foll: Longer, Steven, Ross
Int from: Acres, Newnes, Savage, Gilbert, Stevens, Armitage, Freeman, Dunstan, Weller
That's an absolutely deadly half back line, powerful inside midfield unit and there's a lot of class and run on the outside.

Doing that to drive the price up.
Same way Geelong kept saying "Getting Ablett would be nearly impossible" so they could drive the price down.
No one at Geelong wants to keep Motlop.

Re: Motlop
Yep, a definite buy from our perspective. Free agency is something we haven't cracked and this is a good deal for us.
He adds pace and finishing. Needs a change of scenery. Probably frees up Billings to become a full-time, A-grade midfielder, I reckon.
He's not perfect but nobody trades out/releases perfect players cheaply. Fact is, he has something we need: class.

Re: Motlop
This smells of Luke Ball. Lets get him. I reckon they have tried to cut his wages and he doesn't like it. Offer him 50 grand kore than Geelomg with performance based incentives measured against his best form so he has to earn his money to keep it. He should be hitting his prime.evertonfc wrote:Yep, a definite buy from our perspective. Free agency is something we haven't cracked and this is a good deal for us.

I'm telling you with 100% certainty. He won't be at Geelong because no one wants him there. They are all over the inconsistency plus they need the pick to get in other players.Con Gorozidis wrote:RubbishThe_President wrote:parkeysainter wrote:Apparantly Scott has come out publicly and wants him now.

If you look back, I was the one saying that Ablett was 100% locked away when everyone else was questioned Ng how it gets done.
I also made a Motlop thread because I think he'll ge a great get for us if it only costs a second rounder.
