Con I think your posts are hilarious.

Untrue, but hilarious.
Untrue? You sure?

Hinkley was named AFLCA coach of the year on 24 September 2013

Alan Richardson appointed St Kilda coach on 14 November 2013

Hinkley was the absolute flavour of the month back in 2013 and AR was his assistant.
This played a big part in him winning the Saints job.
An established and verifiable fact.

this refers to the above posts by Con and SaintPav, discussing AR being "flavour of the month".

The coach isn't selected the same way I might choose whether to buy a cooked chicken or frozen chicken at Aldi.
A panel interviews each applicant, asks a whole range of questions,
what can you bring to the club, what resources will you need, etc etc.

The panel then goes away and considers which applicant ticks the boxes.
A connection to a "Coach of the Year" Award may very well figure in the assessment,
but it's hardly likely to get a guy over the line.

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Wishful thinking. This is the Saints were talking about remember.

They made up their mind on AR mid - late 2013 and that was that. The only issue was whether he was going to accept or not if I recall correctly.

Sure - what you say is how it SHOULD work but that doesnt happen in reality.

Usually they decide first and then use a box ticking exercise to justify the decision they had already made.

Hinkley was indeed the flavour of the month at that point and the Saints narrowed in on AR at that point in time.

Now to be clear - I am happy for AR to coach in 2018 but jesus christ he needs some new fresh ideas in there. Persisting with his current approach, philosophy and game style is doomed to failure. If he thinks he can just stick to his guns and it will all come together then he is really delusional. He needs some alternative experienced and strong voices in there helping.

Three observations from last week's game that are very very relevant to our Saints - well, the first two are, anyway. (Caveat: I could only be bothered watching from about halfway through the final quarter.)

1/ Kennedy's final goal:
How did the ball get to him? How it did... is why we must be free of one-man-short-Billy-Longer!

2/ Shuey's interview after kicking the winner after the siren:
One of the questions, unsurprisingly, was along the lines of "Were you nervous?"
Paraphrasing his answer, he basically said he wasn't too nervous, and that they do a lot of work at training... on their shooting for goal!!! (Compare and contrast to Jack Billing's answer on that subject... :x )

3/ Another reason I miss our Big Martian being on SS:
On at least three occasions during the short time whilst I was watching, the Cokeheads failed to win crucial crucial contests... because Cripps was soft at the footy.
That bloke, despite seemingly being well built, is totally a parasitic receiver! And the problem with receivers is, there are occasions when there is no one else to actually win the footy. (I'm very happy that we're free of that bloke, and still pissed-off over how he treated us.   )

Missing Image too.

You don't have to agree with every single one of his opinions. That's not the point (of it all?). But you've gotta love the passion. Hurry back Con. :D

How appropriate that a club led by Koche embraces a song from a guy who died masturbating :D :D
Please explain. I am usually upon these things but this one just evades me.
Michael Hutchence died due to auto erotic asphyxiation, according to reports. That's when you hang or choke yourself to the point of unconsciousness in order to heighten the effect of orgasm. Alas, many people die doing this as they go too far. So I'm told by a friend..............
Thanks Greg. Or perhaps I should call you Mr Band.

So let me get this straight.

You are mastubating therefore you must be alone.

You are on drugs so your faculties are diminished.

You choose to hang yourself to the point of unconsciousness.

And if you make any small error in judgement you die.

And you know from previous stories a lot of people have perished from this behaviour.

And you love your kids.

And then you decide to proceed.

My oh my.

- It looks like even great sides have off games (we had three particularly ill timed ones this year).
- Possible tactic with Dangerfield and Selwood: don't tackle, just watch them throw themselves forwards and sideways, sometimes clutching the scone al la Marcel Marceau.
- If Port / WC umps were conned, tonight's group will be nervous after the debrief.
- Adelaide is feeling pretty good.
- Still not sorry we traded Rhys.
- fumbling is disaster in modern football - unless you are Tom Hawkins, then Duncan makes you look good.

I think Adelaide just won the flag...

The prospect of a vs Syd prelim was all that was left for them to fear

And Motlop is a downhill skier... melts under pressure aka last week

Fair call.

Tommy Lynch to kick 3 goals in a winning premiership team and Bruce McAvaney to broadcast to a 6 million nation wide audience that he is the 500th ex St Kilda player to play in a premiership team since 1966.

f*** you Bruce and F*CK you Ross Lyon.

I can't maintain the rage at Lyon, he did what he did to try and win us a flag which was only inches away from happening… the club should have intervened if he was doing us wrong by running our list into the ground.

Richo just played Weller all year when he was either injured or horribly out of form, coaches have their own agenda ahead of the club at times.
