Re: Josh Kelly signs with GWS
Pretty sure the blueprint called for us to sign a gun in this off season.
So who is left? And what are we supposed to do with our particurarily large war chest of cash?
Geez, we may just have to recurit a couple of classy midfielders and develop them with our 1st round picks.
Perhaps we can recurit some quality 'skill and development' coaches and say a few hail Mary's and just hope some of our promising kids continue to develop,

What do we do with all the money we had to throw at these guns?? Overpay our average players with it? We have to pay 95% of the salary cap don't we? Well I don't reckon our players are good enough to get that much money.

Our draft recruits haven't been very good in the main (traded in players have been a lot better) and our development coach has developed anyone.bigcarl wrote:They will.Toy Saint wrote:Perhaps we can recurit some quality 'skill and development' coaches and say a few hail Mary's and just hope some of our promising kids continue to develop,

I'm not devastated with no Kelly, 7 and 8 could be a bonanza, and even though they may take 3-4 years to come good it's probably our realistic time to deliver

Managers rule OK, Josh! But draft picks don't have managers, yet. And Saints have plenty to play with now.

I've got high hopes for Gresham, Acres, Sinclair and Billings next season. All potentially elite goal-kicking midfielders. I feel they will develop well, particularly as they won't be competing with Kelly or Dustin Martin for a spot in the guts.Jacks Back wrote:our development coach has developed anyone.

Let's be honest. We talked a big game and came up empty. This was not art of the plan.

Well that is another BigFish gone. The odds on Bains delivering on the plan this year are getting smaller and smaller.
Importantly all the truly elite mids are now not available, and that makes me sad.

Re: Josh Kelly signs with GWS
The natural order is for these players subjected to media speculation to remain with their Clubs absent an expressed wish to return to their home State for family reasons or there has been a fall out with their Club aka Carlisle (and I am surprised more Essendon players impacted did not move) and now Stringer
Of those who have moved such as Judd, Buckley, Ablett, Treloar, Dangerfield who have crossed borders team success has been absent
So now St Kilda can go back to basics and plan the welcome back to Armitage, Mc Cartin, Freeman and Goddard and welcome a further two Top 10 Draft picks with those 6 to result in a marked improvement to our bottom 6
Plus the development of our post Richardson Top 20 Draft picks being Billings, Dunstan, Acres and Gresham
Then Carlisle becoming a dominant player
Getting Hickey fit, performance from Bruce and Membrey plus contributions from the likes of Steele, Roberton, Gilbert, Ross, Sinclair particularly with his two sided skills and the development of White and others
St Kilda, in my time of involvement has always had a Star Player focus and we have had some of the very best players in the game on our books, but our record says we have never had the team required to go all the way, absent 1966, so 51 years ago and after how many years?
So now we can work on what is required and develop our List giving the opportunity and demanding the required contribution to team absent two Stars from bygone days being Riewoldt and Montagna
I am pleased that responsibility can be put on our List and we are not distracted by undue reliance and expectation on just one player
We can say that you are the guys, we have assembled you, it is your future and your legacy so the challenge is with you as a member of team
And we want the players on our List to aspire to becoming top flight players in the competition playing in a top team

Plus one. I genuinely believed we would jag one gun. Looks like we're the Charlie Browns again. The club did a Lucy Van Pelt on us. I wonder how this may affect membership. I can't help thinking a Kelly, Martin, Fyfe or similar would've paid for themselves in extra membership revenue. Sigh!!saintsRrising wrote:GregPackhamsHeadband wrote:Let's be honest. Re: Josh Kelly signs with GWS
REALLY? Is anyone surprised that Josh Kelly re-signed? Honestly, I never saw the guy coming to us, ever, not in a million years. GWS are en-route to glory (though maybe not THIS year) Kelly has the chance to be a part of something BIG: being a part of the FIRST flag-winning Giants side, PLUS a shipload of money!
Let's get over it, and concentrate on getting things right for 2018!

WOW. I am amazed that you believe that you are the only one that he thought he would stay at GWS.thejiggingsaint wrote:REALLY? Is anyone surprised that Josh Kelly re-signed?
Equally amazed that you also believe that anyone was surprised about him staying at GWS. Many were hopeful that he may end up at the Saints, but those that thought he would definitely be here would be very thin on the ground.
