Re: Mav Weller news
We finished 11th.
So the plan to play him injured was obviously a s*** one that didn't work.
If the club truly thought we could make the 8 carrying someone like Mav then u need to question their judgement.

Re: Mav Weller news
So the Club is now delusional ConnieBoy, the club, the coaches and all the playing group that voted Mav into the leadership group?????Con Gorozidis wrote:stonecold wrote:Players play injured all the time, particularly leaders, if you think players are all 100% fit, your kidding yourselves!!!!!bigred wrote:Absolutely.
Why the hell would you bother playing him under duress?
Seriously that just does not make a lick of sense.
If you or the club truly think Mav is a 'leader' at AFL level then we are seriously delusional.
He is a battler at best and nowhere near good enough to play injured.
53 goals from 108 games says it all.
'Cause StoneCold Said So'!!!!!
We will be great again once Billy is back playing!!!!!

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Re: Mav Weller news
How can Weller be written off after one bad year? I don't think he was fully fit, he just didn't seem to cover the ground comfortably this year.

Re: Mav Weller news
Just so folks don't think I'm a troll-
there is nothing on twitter about this, no other news anywhere as far as I can see-
so there's 2 choices:
1. the source has jumped to conclusions and is incorrect (a Barrett-type leap of faith)
or
2. it's being kept really quiet for obvious reasons.
because such news would be known to several folks, like other managers, and their staff,
it's more likely that Mav isn't being shopped around at all.
Anyways...back to work

Re: Mav Weller news
I see this as plausible, regardless of how reliable the source is.
Maverick certainly lived up to his name in 2017, after drinking his own bathwater over the pre-season.

He is 25.
Six seasons in AFL.
One good year.
Five poor.
If he truly was injured he shouldnt have played and should have got his body right.
If the match committee think he is so good that they pressured him to play injured then they are delusional and should come out and admit they made a mistake and apologise to Mav for it.

Mav is all about marketing Mav. He is all strut and huff n puff and show pony in the mounting yard.
Not hard to see how everyone could be fooled for a period of time.
I certainly was.

Re: Mav Weller news
This frustrated me more in regards to the coach/coaching than Mav
But whatever they were thinking... he wasn't playing well and yet they persevered with him. He's copped a lot of flak, from no one more than I I trust but it's like he was set up to fail.
Whatever they were thinking, it just didn't make sense

Re: Mav Weller news
[quote="Rocket"]Agree 100% with posts re his ankle injury. Mav at 70% was still better than Long or Lonie at 100%.
It seems like a taboo subject on this forum, but I reckon Long was a shocking choice at last years draft table.
