I was thinking the same thing, they are collectively 28.7 at the moment, taking the piss nailing shots from everywhere. Cummings hasn't looked like missing a set shot. Just goes to show how much of a joke our goal kicking is.

Or it shows that if you relax and let muscle memory and not fatigued legs take the swing, you have more chance of hitting them flush

It also goes to show that no amount of practice can replicate the pressure and pace of the real thing

Chips Fisher getting monstered by Jono Brown, Carey making the same mistake as our coach in playing him as a key back

But these guys aren't in top fitness so they would be just as fatigued relatively speaking.

I was thinking the same thing. It's not as hard as our players make it look.

So you equate a guy who retired less than 5 years ago, does not do the full field press, has not been tackled or crunched to what a current AFL player does every week?????

These games are so hard fought and pacey that Hutchy starred when he played.

They would hardly be raising a sweat.

Surely the comparing of kicking for goal in the EJ Whitten game to an AFL game is not serious? Poles apart.

Our players are missing set shots from 35m early in the game. the legends are lacking match fitness, our blokes are superb athletes finely tuned to the minute with any number of fitness gurus. FFS Bruce was missing from 20m. Our kicking cost us finals this year

What do Polish players have to do with this? Can they kick straight? Bring them in as international rookies. Can't do worse than the previous lot.

What do you mean? It's kicking the same ball the same distance through the same goals? Anything other than that is bad technique or mental weakness, both which shouldn't be an excuse for players at AFL level.

No - What do you mean? It is the same words - used by the same people. Anything other than that is not SUPPORTive or mental weakness, both which shouldn't be an excuse for SUPPORTors of an AFL yeam.
[I was not happy with our goal kicking accuracy - but to suggest that the All Stars game was as hard and physically demanding as a H&A game is ludicrous]

What is stupid is that we have this totally f***ed up bye week pre finals.

You watch, it will become locked in every year as they AFL love their friggin Thursday night final.

I just hope the top 4 all make the prelims to maintain some integrity. We can't have the bullshyte of last year where a team from 7th wins the flag as a direct benefit of the bye.

This has nothing to do with how physical the EJ game was, this is about kicking a ball through the sticks. If they're technique can't hold up under the stress of an actual game then it's useless, and they should change their training method so it can.

Surely running a hard km or two to get a oppotunity to kick a goal must be a factor. Fo

Pressure.
In an AFL game you are kicking with 20,000 fans or more expecting and yelling for you to kick it, the other 20,000 jeering, in a game that means something. Ej Whitten you are kicking in a fun fest with the crowd half watching and not expecting you to kick it. No point comparing the two. Have you watched the guys practising goal kicking at training? (and they do) - nail 90%of the shots.
That said, we certainly need to brush up on goal kicking, bad this year, but better the year before.

Well get a psych down there or wear ear plugs. These kids have played probably over a 100 games before playing a senior game and Bruce has played 6 seasons and 88 games of senior football and still can get worse miss of the season, from the goal square. How did Lockett, ablett, dunstall etc manage to kick 100+ in many seasons playing in wet and windy conditions, without the training the modern footballer gets, in front of as large crowds as today and against tougher (physically) opponents. No excuse

Exactly. Pressure is no excuse, every team plays under pressure yet we're one of, if not the, worst goal kicking team. If we have players too mentally weak to preform when needed then fix them or get rid of them. There are plenty of sportsman who thrive under pressure, get Warnie down there to show them how to do it.

Agree. But we were talking about comparing goal kicking in an AFL game to the EJ Whitten game where there is no pressure. Useless comparison.

What's the point of the top Eight then ...should be top 4 only.??
