The return of Ro$$
As a joke I floated this as a possibility in another thread (for the end of next year) ...
now I'm starting to wonder if the idea has merit.
Sure, he was unhealthily obsessed with role players and his ability to rebuild sides is
questionable ...
But we sure had a game plan when he was coach. We had system. belief. And I
don't think we ever played flat as a tack. We rarely -- if ever -- got thrashed.
He was also our only coach in forty years that other clubs wanted. So
naturally he was poached.
So the question is: would you countenance his return at the end of 2018, assuming
we don't make the finals?

I'm a Ross fan but I do think his style hasn't kept up with the game...

Re: The return of Ro$$
Won 12 of his last 45 games......
Wed need to see some serious improvement in the Dockers next year to even contemplate it. And if they make top 8 why would he leave? If they dont make top 8 it means hes cooked as a coach at AFL level.
Another thing. Out of the hundreds of VFL/AFL coaches over the last century how many have left a club for another club and then returned?
It is just not done in our game. Not part of the culture.
Wont even be contemplated.

David Parkin did it. Left the blues for Fitzroy and then returned to the blues some years later.Con Gorozidis wrote:Won 12 of his last 45 games......

Re: The return of Ro$$
Lyons style of play wears out players - when they don't get success within 4 years they stop believing his plan.

You should never go back to an ex.
Particularly if they leave you for a weaker version of yourself.
So although you might be tempted for 'old times sake' . No.. best make him wish he never left.

The Tiger and the Lion may be more powerful, but the Wolf does not perform in the circus.

If the Saints ever took on Rossy Boy again I won't be following them.
He will stuff over Freo further. Looks like he already has.

Precisely. He breaks them. With the likes of Rooey and Joey playing for as long as they did after Lyon's tenure is testament to how great they are.oh when the wrote:Lyons style of play wears out players - when they don't get success within 4 years they stop believing his plan.

I still have that card, it's in a box with an autograph book full to the brim of scribbles from blokes who won a handful of games in their careers. What a way to grow up, what a rush!parkeysainter wrote:Bring back Graeme Jellie as an assistant.

At least his heart was in the right place. I still rate him ahead of the likes of Malcolm Blight, Scott Watters and the insipid Tim Watson as past St.Kilda coaches. He was also a good bloke, the Crow.bigcarl wrote:Remember the headline in the old Herald when we hired him: Saints turn to Gellieparkeysainter wrote:Bring back Graeme Jellie as an assistant.

Re: The return of Ro$$
He was a bloody good player, too, when he could get on the park. Had the misfortune of coaching a seriously undermanned list and I doubt Alastair Clarkson could have done much better with what was available to him.Sainternist wrote:At least his heart was in the right place.
