possible trade bait

Post: # 1695315Post older saint »

The areas we seem to have an excess amount of players in are rucks and HBF

Ruck : Longer, Hickey, Pierce, Holmes,

HB: Geary, Savage, Monty, Webster, Rice, White, Roberton, Gilbert, McKenzie

Forget contracts as at end of the day they mean little in regard to trades unless excessive

Untoiuchable: Geary, Roberton, Rice, White,

Should keep unless really good offer - win/win type trade: Webster, Hickey, Savage, could add Weller to this list

Unlikely to attract interest - Gilbert, McKenzie,

Likely Delisted /Retired: Monty, Holmes, Pierce, probably add Minchington

Retired - Roo, Dempster,

Would mean before trades out : Pierce, Holmes, Roo, Dempster, Minchington,

Upgrade - Marshall, NoK.

interesting times ahead

You forgot to add Lonie and Wright to those that may or should be delisted

On paper it looks like we have a lot of half back flankers, but that group breaks down into important sub-groups....

Lock down defenders are Geary, Rice, Wright
Attacking defenders are Webster, White, Joey, McKenzie, Savage
3rd Key defenders/interceptors are Roberton, Gilbert

Need depth in all 3 groups.

Interesting with the Webster rumour today, seeing as Joey might give it away, Savage doesn't have a deal for 2018, and McKenzie and White are still learning the game.

I get the feeing we not getting kelly but what about whitfield? Taranto??
Id happily give first round pick and hickey or Lonie or Armitage for him.

How about this??
Taranto or Kely and Whitfield
FOR Both this years fIrst rounds - hickey Lonie and Armitage.

I wouldn't worry too much - AFL Trade Whisperer on Twitter had an "exclusive leak" from the Saints list management group saying Webster was being courted as "steak knives" in a deal involving our 2 first rounders. And Jimmy was upset that Mav was on the trade table.

If there was any truth to this, it raises a few questions....
What sort of massive trade have we lined up that takes 2 top-10 pick plus a contracted best 22 player in his early 20's????
How would Jimmy know Mav was on the table??
Would you really want out of your footy club because one of your mates was being mentioned in trade discussions??

Weller is worthless in a trade, Would attract zero interest from 17 clubs.
A 26 year old 1.82cm 'utility' who can't play midfield with 50 goals from 105 games.
People need to get real.

Why on earth would you put Rice in the 'untouchable' category when he hasn't even played a game. And put Jimmy in the possible trade list when he is easily in our best 22 and one of the best kicks in the side?

Trading Webster is folly.

Absolute folly.

What about Acres? I think he is slightly over rated or not living up to potential. So many times he does great things and then something stupid that costs a goal. I think that if we got some value for him we should think about it

No way.

I'm out keen on seeing him become a star of the competition for someone else over the next 15 seasons.

Yes there is a lot of hype around him, but that is because people can see the type of player he can become. As Con said, only 21 and fewer than 50 games.

Reckon we probably overrate Webster a bit on here like a few others… he's a good solid player, but he's no Shaun Burgoyne and makes some horrible errors at times.

I'd be much more comfortable trading Webster than someone like Acres who has a huge ceiling.

This is the art of trading. You have to offer some value. Jimmy is in the category of being promising enough to excite some interest, while being dispensable. While Acres frustrates at times, he's shown enough to justify parking him in the untouchable column. We've got plenty of alternatives to cover the loss of Jimmy or Mav. I doubt Weller would excite much interest, especially after the year he's had.

I don't want to trade either. Webster's potentially an elite defender. Still only 70-odd games so he hasn't peaked yet. Keep the young group together. This is the art of team building.

No to trading Webster or Acres. Young fella's with plenty of upside.

According to a poster on BF, GWS have enquired about Gresham.

Gresham is an untouchable, AFAIC. Then again, GWS is openly pursuing a small forward, midfielder, such as Puopolo. If push came to shove and they wanted the Gresh for Kelly or as part of a package deal, would you do it? Things that make you go hmmmmm......l.l.

No. There's a reason they gave Gresham No.4.

Kelly is a gun midfielder, Gresham will be a gun midfielder.

I think this is a hard truth.

Webster is top 22 & at no risk of being delisted, in a team with a lot of ppl vying for his position, some of which have a bit of potential.

Is he indispensable... the hard truth is no. He could become indispensable but he ain't there yet.
Kind of like Newnes in that he's a player you want and think should become elite but there's some doubt starting to creep in as to how good he will be

They would have to consider it, if it meant we land the premier young midfielder in the comp in Kelly.

Gresham is an exciting young player with some mad tricks, but I have my doubts he can become a genuine midfielder. The club obviously love him though, so it would be a very tough decision.

The number 4 jumper doesn't mean a lot… Eli Templeton & Clint Jones being the previous two custodians.

Would prefer to keep Webster, but definitely keep Gresham...will be a freak when he hits 23 yrs old and beyond.

If the deal was pick 9 and Webster for Kelly you'd do it.
