Bluthy was right.
Haven't seen Bluthy for some time.
But he was right. I was wrong. It seems as though he was right all along.
Coach devoid of strategy.
Playing old guys too often. Not trusting the younger players.
No plan B. Just 'pressure' and 'tackling'.
Perhaps too intent on short term success, whilst losing sight of the long term?
Bluthy called this nearly 2 years ago! I disagreed vehemently, as I thought it was grossly unfair to make that judgement so early on, and whilst we had such a rubbish list.
But it looks as though he may have nailed it.

Pressure is all he ever spoke about, until
yesterday.
Then he had an epiphany.
Execution and accuracy are suddenly relevant.

Perhaps " Moses " needs to make way for "Aarron"?

Re: Bluthy was right.
Richo has spent four years preaching that if you bring 'effort' and 'pressure' then you have a good chance. Be 'bold' and 'strong'.
This philosophy assumes the other side arent also going to bring pressure and effort (and then add skill on top).
The reality is Richo brings a Port Power Game Plan from 2013 (which everyone thought that was red hot in 2013 and 2014).
In 2017 we are now a poor man's Port. That makes us a derivative of s***.

Re: Bluthy was right.
In my view selecting youth obviously is the future
But the game is not played in the future because the future is not known - it is just not known including talking of the Saints as being contenders in 2019/2020.
Who knows - because there is always an opposition and those opposition sides also transition
So the game is played on the day - and on every day you run onto the park you expect to win, otherwise why turn up?
The extension is that you select your best available side for every game
If that best available side includes experienced players then so be it
And the optimum is to introduce youth to a side which has experienced players to provide on field support
So it is not youth for the sake of youth
It is introducing youth to provide transition - and have the experienced players as the cream on the cake
That said I am currently not impressed by the continuing use of some of our younger players - and the structure we are taking into games
Acres should be being given mid field time instead of playing on a wing then "zoning" in defence and in attack
Put him where the "heat" is - because he is good enough
We seem to me to under perform when we rely on Bruce and Membrey up forward, noting Membrey is 188cm
And, unlike Gawn going forward as a marking option on Sunday, we do not have a ruckman who can go forward looking for a mis match, a mark and a goal
So McCartin is sorely missed
We do not have a defensive option for full back - hence Brown until Goddard can demonstrate that he is more than capable
Behind Goddard?
Good question
So we rely on the experience we have, putting around them the First Round Draft picks we have had in the post Watters time - and we hope for some diamonds from Second Round picks - aka White as the latest to give us hope
Youth for the sake of youth does not work
That is why good sides go out and recruit experienced players
So they have the balance - and also the time to develop kids in the VFL, which is a step up from school boy football
As Sunday yet again showed we have player skills to address
That takes ability then work, more work then more work - then you retire!!!
When the improvement of youth sees them exceed the contribution of experienced players then you are on the right curve
And the result is that instead of having ordinary experienced players (and the reason the side has had the season ending performances it has had over years - so they are GOP's with experience who have not had pressure on them re selection and the team has languished accordingly) your experienced players are of the ilk of Roo, Montagna and Gilbert and they are cream on the cake
And Armitage, who has been sadly missed in 2017

Amazing that a return Etihad game v Freo rather than Sydney at the SCG and Port at Etihad rather than Adelaide we'd be sitting pretty and flying.

Re: Bluthy was right.
Why? Melbourne are not that good a team. If we were evena top 8 team we would have put them away.CURLY wrote:Amazing that a return Etihad game v Freo rather than Sydney at the SCG and Port at Etihad rather than Adelaide we'd be sitting pretty and flying.
We may have been higher up the ladder, but it would still be the same team and only flying when the opposition is off their game. We would still have crashed and burnt in the finals even if we had of snuck in.

Have the players set the ball up for a place kick, then as they are doing that, KICK them up their backsides..
