Re: Merge with Gold Coast?
YES YES!!! Great idea! Seriously i want to move there and they need heart a jumper song etc.
Gold Coast Saints. Beautiful.
Were gone anyway. After another failed rebuild it will be 10 years minimum IF we rebuild good by then the support will be gone.
Get the money and many many concessions, an academy, a new oval and training facilitiies. AMD BEST OF ALL merge the players!!

Re: Merge with Gold Coast?
Honestly it's probably too soon after the game to be commenting because I'm way too emotional..but sometimes i feel like it's only a matter of time before a merge is on the cards. I love my Saints dearly but in all honesty, what do we actually give to the AFL? We've been around for ever, have 1 measly premiership, no money, low supporter base, low crowds..is it just a matter of time? What is saving us? Somebody reassure me..things always seem so dim after a loss..especially to another nothing club like melbourne. That other nothing club has 14 flags..i guess i rest my case. Oh woe is me! You'd think after witnessing a draw in a GF to friggin collingwood and then watching us get murdered by them a week later would have made me tougher....
Destiny. It's in our hands.

Re: Merge with Gold Coast?
Not a bad option really.
Should have moved to Tasmania when we had the chance.
Got that one wrong too.

Re: Merge with Gold Coast?
I'd prefer us to merge with Freo......... then I won't have to spend too many pennies travelling East to see the Freo/ Saints matches.
We could alternate our Senior coach.
Games in WA - Ro$$ the Boss is the senior coach. Games in Melbourne & other states, AR is the senior coach. Makes sense!!!!!!

This is an interesting perspective. Care to elaborate or contrast with our current/historic position.saintsRrising wrote:Trolling now.Johnny Member wrote:Discuss....

Re: Merge with Gold Coast?
I think the Gold Coast is a graveyard for sporting franchises. For a variety of reasons.
But the bigger picture is whether both us and North can survive in Melbourne long term. It is a genuine question.

We're an industry club, we even up the draw, we provide employment for a whole lot of 'industry soldiers', we're ballast.
See, we're not 'big', but we can be treated with contempt, so that's great.
But, by golly, isn't the Finnis inspired marketing excellent?
We're fodder.

Re: Merge with Gold Coast?
The sole reason for 2 sides in Queensland is so AFL football is played there every week - and with Sydney you can add Canberra
The crowds at those games are what they are - so those Clubs need financial support to survive, and success which, in terms of Queensland, is absent at the current time
So where is the resolution for the AFL?
And what is the cost to Victorian sides?
No doubt 10 sides out of Victoria remains under review
The number of sides will not reduce because of media coverage guarantees - at least until the next media coverage rights are negotiated
Then there is Tasmania which is an "AFL" State with no side
Nothing is set in concrete
So relocate a Victorian side and add a side from Tasmania?
Then the OP may not be a nonsense for historically underperforming Victorian sides

Re: Merge with Gold Coast?
If GWS win the flag this year I can see a lot of older fans giving the code away.
I think the Dogs flag was manna from heaven for the AFL because it gave clubs like the Saints, Roos, Demons, Tiges and Dockers hope. The Tiges are still riding that wave.
But if GWS win I think it will burst the vibe balloon.
I can see North and the Saints seriously struggling in the next two years in terms of crowd attendances. The Gold Coast obviously will struggle to pull a crowd.
Sure the media will blow smoke up our ass saying we we are 'developing' and 'on the move' but the reality is we are in serious strife on and off field.
