Hows the blocking working Tony74
Seems like it's working a treat for the Demons. Don't worry about the footy when you can block!

I think that was after the Port game
Why is Mav in the side
and why is an ITK trying to sell us an excuse like a politician selling a new tax?

Pretty pumped in the rooms after that game. Very physical and taxing game so obviously a lot of sore boys. Thought Koby was very very good. And Mav did his job, lots of blocking. It's easy to pick out the class acts but everyone has a job to do.

Re: Hows the blocking working Tony74
This is a bit silly...
Tony just posts what he hears. Taking pot shots at him is just stupid.
That said, the frustration comes from the fact that what he tells us is inexplicable to the average AFL fan.
Mav remains by far the most overappreciated (by the coaching staff) and underperforming player on the list for this season.
He has played 15 games this season and 14 of them have been shocking to disgraceful minus his one quarter last week but whilst players like Dunstan, Savage, Bruce, Acres, Steele have all routinely been dropped for less and forced to earn their way back... Mav has continually been given a free pass and its grating to watch.
I like Richo as a coach, but this kind of bull dust has really taken the shine off him this year. Really makes you question where his head is at and as a club, where ours is at extending his contract whilst he's pulling crap like this

If you disagree with it, fine. FWIW, I don't think those in charge of the club have much of a clue to be honest.
But I don't blame Tony74 for it. I thank him for giving us keyboard warriors some context on what we see on the ground each week.

He may not be trying to sell anything. It is most probably, exactly what the coaches think is the truth.WellardSaint wrote:tony74: "Mav played his role very well, he did a lot of blocking"magnifisaint wrote:Because he posts ridiculous things.

I didn't know that a big part of Mav's job was to block. And I didn't know that the 'club' was pleased with his performance.magnifisaint wrote:Good point. I don't agree with it. But I'm really pleased that when I assess the game from the grandstands, I have some context as to why certain guys are on the ground, and why we're doing certain things.
If anything, it supports my view that we're poorly coached and too defensive in our mindset. But I'd still much prefer to get some inside word than not.

Absolutely not. Without Tony's input I'd struggle to understand it at all... at least I understand the logic even if it is moronic.
That said, that is in no way a reflection on Tony who is an asset to this website and I hope I made in clear in my initial post that this not a reflection of him at all. And in fairness here, Mav did play a big last quarter last week.
But unlike many who thought that McQualter and Ray's performance in the second half of the drawn GF after doing SFA in the first half was the greatest thing ever... some u/s that good performances = 4 quarter performances in most cases

That sums up why people get a bit fed up with Tone.
Tony posts pollyanna PR spin from the marketing department. He treats us like children. We can all see the obvious problems. Dont give me this 'internally he is highly rated' kind of post. Maybe 'internally' some of the club staff are clueless. I'd rather have some honesty.

Telling you that a key part of Weller's role is to block is marketing spin??
It's explaining why he gets picked.

All 22 players are required to block ffs. It is normal play expected of everyone at AFL level.
Everyone on the list should know when to block. Weller's selfishness with the ball is obvious and his lack of goals for a full time fwd means he is not up to it. 51 goals from 105 games as a full time fwd means he is not AFL standard.

Yes, I believe it.
It's the only logical explanation as to why he gets a game.
And, on top of that, it's the only explanation I've ever been given as to why he gets a game. Unless someone else with inside knowledge of the selection process can give me a different explanation, then I'm going to choose to believe this one.

He is picked by the marketing department because they see him as popular with lady members. He also has a cool name. "Maverick'.Johnny Member wrote:Yes, I believe it.

I said it in the match day thread and I believe it.
He should quit footy and start his own gym.
He would be a tremendous personal trainer and business man.
I have no doubt he is a fine young man who will make a success in life.
He is just not a footballer.

I have nothing to do with the inner circle as 99.95% of people on this site don't.
How anyone can judge how good an assistant coach is for example from watching each Saints game on TV or listening to it on the radio is astounding. They must have more secret knowledge and power than a tarot reader.
