Left field pickups in upcpming trade period
Would be very very happy with J. Kelly to come to Saints. That should be our no 1 priority.
But its interesting to discuss who else we could gain that hasn't been discussed....someone left field.
I would trade for Breust from the Hawks. He is still only 26 and a proven goal kicker. We need someone like him just to finish off our forward line. Devon Smith is a very similar player and would be good a pickup too.
Obviously another midfielder too would be great. Leftfield trades coulde be - Issac Smith from Hawks? Aaron Hall from Suns? Jake Llyod from Swans?
Is there someone the Saints ars secretly targeting behind closed doors in a hope to gain an established player no one is talking about yet.
Will be an interesting trade period for us.

I think we need a KPD - Carlisle is fantastic, Brown started well but seems to be fading a bit and can really only go downhill next year you would think - and unfortunately Goddard is ??? At the moment - I think we are covering every other position pretty well - don't know who though ?

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Still a big fan of Kade Answerth. Nick Rippon from North Ballarat is having a decent season.footynut wrote:Is there any vfl players that would cut the mustard?saint6709 wrote:I think we need a KPD - Carlisle is fantastic, Brown started well but seems to be fading a bit and can really only go downhill next year you would think - and unfortunately Goddard is ??? Breust from Hawks?
Why can't we develop our own players that we drafted?
We got Skunk, Hickey, Jake, Koby, Steelo, Savage, Baroose, etc because
other clubs can develop players better than we can.
It appears that our Development people are not doing their job properly.
Or is the Saints culture not conducive to getting the best out of young guys?

hardly agree that skunk, steele and bruce were developed elsewhere. skunk and steele were young and bruce wasn't a forward.

Skunk- Swans AcademyRosco wrote:hardly agree that skunk, steele and bruce were developed elsewhere. skunk and steele were young and bruce wasn't a forward.
Steelo- Canberra boy, GWS trained, he spent 2-3 years there.
Baroose- GWS defender and spent a few years there.
My point is, we didn't draft them as 17 year-olds. Another club did.

You've pretty much just said why we couldn't pick them upWellardSaint wrote:Skunk- Swans AcademyRosco wrote:hardly agree that skunk, steele and bruce were developed elsewhere. skunk and steele were young and bruce wasn't a forward.

Should be a very interesting off season!! I'm glad we're not making trade headlines just yet frankly. Makes me think... yeah things are bubbling away nicely behind the scenes.

Re: Left field pickups in upcpming trade period
I've stated in another thread I want Atley from North Melbourne. He has pace to burn and is a great user by foot. I'm sure he would be the most experienced player from his draft in a games played sence.

How about Riley Bonner?
He played a pretty nice game against us in the pre-season, can't break into the port side, good size, can play.

Re: Left field pickups in upcpming trade period
Yes Bonner would be good, but he is hardly the match winner we are after. I agree we should be looking for a fullback for the future, but there are a number of boys in the draft who may fit the bill. Clavarino, Naughton, Petty, a few others.
