Thanks all for articulating what I'd like to have said. Booking flights now to see his last game. Privilege to follow the Team he plays for. Lucky Saints were able to recruit and keep him. Some end of eras are quite emotional.

If Nick plays the remaining 4 games and kicks at least 8 goals then he will be in the top 20 of games played and goals kicked of all time. He already leads the number of marks taken. I note that that if he kicks 14 goals, it will put him above Wayne Carey, although he played fewer games.

Nick is the best "overall" mark the game has seen. He is a clean grabber. Half of the pack marks paid before 1990 would never be paid now - when a few touches or an effort was paid. There were clean grabbing players in the past - for us: Bob Murray (thankfully), Ian Stewart, John McIntosh, George Young, Tony Lockett, Stewart Loewe and Kosi. Nick can mark in a pack or on the run. With the latter version, he has the ability to make up for poor kicks with either extra speed or jumping or sliding. This is something few other players are able to do - which is why he takes so many marks, no just because players kick it to him. Players often say that marking at full run above your head is the hardest of all to master.

If there has been a fairer player ever in the game, I haven't seen him.

He can kick left or right. Like almost every other player, the glare of the set shot seems to present imagined dangers, although his actual accuracy level is over 60% (cf Tony Lockett, just under 70%). We sometimes judge champions harshly.

But it is in the area of club leadership that Nick has performed as few others. His only peers in the time I have watched the Saints are Darrel Baldock, Trevor Barker, Danny Frawley and Nathan Burke. No club has a better spokesperson than Nick.

He will be - no - is, one of the greatest players ever in the game. It is the side swipe of history that decrees than an extra point here or there can elevate a man to an even greater level.

No other CHF has come even close to playing at the same high standard for as long as Roo has.

That's how you do a retirement press conference - gracious, heartfelt, eloquent, humble and sincere.

A wonderful amazing player for the Saints over his career who deserves all the accolades that will come his way.

Well done Nick Riewoldt and thanks for the memories

What an out and out champion of our club and the game.

He has been an absolute professional throughout and will be truly missed when our season comes to an end.

I saw this and thought it was a fitting tribute amongst the millions that will be shared in the days and weeks to come:
Father Time is a miserable, unsentimental, old fool!

He is not swayed by desire, he is not swayed by professionalism, nor is he swayed by the level of pain you are willing to endure. It is of no concern to him the esteem in which you are held or the single-minded focus you have on completing your mission. As he reminded us all yet again today, with the announcement of Nick Riewoldt’s intention to retire at season’s end, it matters not who you are, Father Time gets you in the end.

Rooey is a great of St Kilda and a great of the game. Well done Nick on an outstanding career.

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Truly one of St Kilda's great players. It is sad that he doesn't get the chance next year for one more finals series but his knee has hamped him this year. I remember the times he has been double or even triple teamed in order to curtail his fantastic football. He goes out in what he says is the right time. Good luck for your future Rooey!

The dumbarses have finally released Round 23.

We play 3.20 Sunday.

The imbeciles should've been taken to task about this months ago, but the media are too compliant.

Bring back GT to the media!
