In a way I am relieved that he is going out on his terms and not going one season to many.
Thank you Roo, thank you for how much you have given this club I just wish you got to hold that premiership cup, I know you did everything you could to make that possible.
I look forward to seeing you in the coaches box because I think you have the makings of a great coach.
Again thank you and I hope your future is as bright as it can be.

My youngest daughter is almost 21. She has been to most St Kilda games since a toddler, and even some as a baby.
Essentially from when she was really paying attention at games Riewoldt has always been there. For her Riewoldt and StKilda are one.

Greatest Saint of all time.
Irreplaceable, incomparable . Roo has been the foundation of the club since he was drafted. St Kilda has been his club during his time more than the same could be said of just about anybody ever.

I remember hearing him interviewed on radio very early on and he was asked what would be his greatest wish. I thought he was going to say something about world peace (that was the tone of the interview) but instead he said - for St Kilda to win another flag.

Whilst theres a tinge of sadness for me and all of us, I'm glad he's going out while he's on top, much like Lenny and Banger.
The second best Saint of all time for me, after Plugger and above Banger. Thanks for it all champ

Agreed. I'm gutted. Intellectually, you know it had to end eventually. Emotionally, I cannot imagine the club without Roo.
When Burkey and Buckets retired, there was Roo.
When Banger and Lenny retired, there was still Roo.
It feels like there's always been Roo.

I've been guilty of underrating his contribution to the club. I was pretty red hot on kick it to Nick. Wonderful player and I hope he comes back to coach us one day, to one flag or several.

Best player the Saints have ever had. A champ on and off the field. Nick was truly someone that gave over 100% in every day of his career which not many footballers could achieve.
But life goes on, just like when our other champs retired and someone will take his place.

All class in every way at the presser; exactly what you would expect.
I felt better about it the more he talked.
Out and out champion of the game.

How good of a public speaker has he become!? Great press conference. He seems quite happy and content with the decision, which makes it easier to cop.
Ironically, I didn't see any tears, lol

What a classy press conference from Roo.
Even without Roo's actual words you could see from his eyes and his bearing how much his club, career. teammates and this announcement means to him.
All grace even when some journos tried to muddy the waters with Watters, or that dead set flog Slobbo wanting to draw out Roo on his greatest weakness.

A fantastic press conference. He's quite an articulate fellow. At least far more than most AFL players. Wouldn't mind him as a full time colour commentator.

"From the day he walked into the club, to this day, he has been prepared to give until his last breath, and you can be sure it will be so for the few days that now remain. Sometimes that breath was the last left after a series of lung-busting leads, up, and back and then up again, until the ball was his. Generally, ageing footballers retreat to the confines of back or forward lines. Riewoldt went to the wing."
A really thoughtful piece from Greg Baum. Worth reading the whole thing.
