I agree they played a gutsy game but where are the leader .....................why is the Captain not marshalling the troops to ensure Port's best player is covered with no
space between Grey and the avenue to goal. Surely common sense tells yu not to leave their best player with no one standing rubbing body on him at the time ball is
being thrown in!!! unbelievably dumb Geary is a good honest goer lacking nous and skill in pressure situations..................am still mystified how he is Captain.
Am sure there will be some controversy about that comment............that is my thought.

I was asked to work, so unable to watch the match.
I listened on my car radio on the way to work, and unfortunately had to clock in 3 minutes after the start of 4th qtr.
Is it worth watching when all that happened is point-point-point-point

Port are absolute garbage.Con Gorozidis wrote:If anyone here tries to tell me Port are a good side so it's another honourable loss I will go feral.
Port are s***.
If the lads played half as good as they did against the Dorks and the Giants, we would have won by 7 goals.
Despite the manure about "very young team" our guys are more than a match for Port, head to head, most of our guys are superior to their pretenders.
The lads have a problem inside their bloody heads.
Fix that, and we would have won more games and been happily sitting in the 8.

Re: Well done Saints on a 4 Quarter Crack!
I have to agree that a good effort is not enough. It was a very gutsy performance and if not for two minutes of leadership-less collapse at the end, would have been a stirring win.
But as others have said, we are not a junior footy team. Even the most heroic of efforts is not enough. Should we have been at any sub-elite level, I would be praising the team for their effort.
We're in an elite sport competition though. So effort is not enough. We have persistent problems which have not improved all year long. Our execution is not good enough. Not just in front of goal; the way we set up around the play and move the ball are included in that.
I'm sure the players were completely gutted after the game but I don't have any sympathy for them. We are our own worst enemy and have been all year long. At some point, effort is not enough and they need to demand of themselves better execution.

Re: Well done Saints on a 4 Quarter Crack!
I'm sure the club don't accept it.... everyone seems to think they ( the club players and staff would be happy, ?????)
For some bazar reason the usual suspects seem to confuse optimistic supporters with "the club"
For what it's worth though I'm gutted by the loss, I think the players had a red hot go, we still have issues like our forward set up and goal kicking in particular, but at least I'm not some club bashing poster, who takes every opportunity to slag the club and particularly the players like many on here.
Some if you should go barrack for another team, kick your cat , or vent your spleen on what is really making you angry.

Re: Well done Saints on a 4 Quarter Crack!
Exactly, the thing that I see the most I is that we win the ball back half back and look up and there is no one to kick it to except opposition players who don't follow our guys down and just wait for the easy turnover we create by having no one forward of the ball.carn_sainter wrote:I have to agree that a good effort is not enough. Re: Well done Saints on a 4 Quarter Crack!
A lot to be positive about despite the disappointment... MacKenzie I thought had his best game, white as mentioned showed a bit. Forward line worked well post-Nick just need to kick straight.and great to see dunstan coming of age... and I genuinely believe we have a future Josh Kennedy on our hands with Steele, his tenacity vision and hands are already remarkable... very exciting to watch him the next few years,
In terms of room for improvement, while there is a bit, I would love Billings to take to heart his letting Grey slip and really work on continued effort, he looked like he wanted to win it for us which I love, but I need to see second, repeat efforts from him, the second he hits the deck he is so slow getting up.

I was there in 1965.
I believe that year we were raging favorites and Essendon created history by winning from 4th position..
From memory they also lost the first 6 games.

In Perth, listening on radio in the car at work
Last qtr- they said "Webster slipped over"
I thought he learned how to keep his bloody feet.
What the flower happened to him?
