It is fair to say that Nick Riewoldt's performance against the Bombers was not up to the high standard to which we are all accustomed from the champion forward. As a result of this we have again been bombarded with media speculation about whether Riewoldt should carry on an 18th season. Whether Riewoldt should or shouldn't is beyond the point, it is mind numbing that each time a veteran plays a poor game, we are treated to the media rush to retire them off.

I thought this was an interesting take on the Riewoldt question.

From the outer, I would have to agree with this post 100%.Con Gorozidis wrote:Roo not smart.
Should have done a Federer and managed himself this season. Maybe aimed for 15 games.
Trying to play every week - he has not helped himself.
Whoever is advising him gave him bad advice.
At his age, and with his knee, every game he plays, he is doing more damage to his body.
He should have played 2 games, then have a week off, play one or two if he can...then another week off...
A tough competitor can never admit to any sort of weakness, sure, but it's about knowing how to manage.
A lot of athletes, like ultra-marathon runners, end up with glandular fever from over-training.
Training and playing too much when the body isn't quite right, is asking for long-term problems.

Its sad seeing him labouring around on 1 leg. He is a proud great man but even the best need a nudge to come to terms that there time is up. You have nothing to prove go out with dignity please St Nick!

Re: Is Roo done?
I reckon he should have aimed for 15 games this year and 13 next year and requested a contract to reflect that.
Sensible realistic management.

Spot on Con ,he's played 13 so far rest him up next two interstae games and if we cant win the two after that with him cherry ripe then play Battle/Marshall for the last two games. He has copped a couple of hits to the knee this year which hasn't helped of course .
