AFL job vacancies; Hold onto Ameet Bains

Post: # 1684961Post Fidelis »

Have just listened to the AFL presser where Gill McLachlan announced that he had accepted the resignations of Head of Football Operations and General Manager Commercial. Gill explained that he did not see obvious successors within the organisation and that they would be looking to clubland for new appointments. I think there's general agreement that our own Ameet Bains is one of the rising stars in the industry. Hope that the club are taking whatever steps it can to make him an offer he can't refuse!

That would be right. An AFL Exec screws the hired help but we end up being bent over as well.

Finnis much more likely to get picked up I'd say - he's been earmarked as AFL material for a long time. Not sure he fits either of the empty chairs though - definitely not GM Football, maybe GM Commercial though.

Pfft.
Long term contracts to Armo, McKenzie, Dunstan, Pierce and White.

Bains is grossly over rated.

And what has Finnis achieved so far? Nothing.

Not sure why he is rated at all. What's he really done.... Paddy Mc? and......I imagine he is eloquent and smooth like N. Buckley. And when did he involve a club in finals - but possibly perfect for AFL bureaucracy.

Based on one assy Hawthorn trade where they were desperate and we had the high pick they needed?

A toddler could have completed that trade.

Some silly questions ...
1) What actually did these two guys do wrong? Sure they my have stuffed their marriages but maybe they were stuffed anyway? If the relationships were consensual then what laws were broken (assuming the relationship wasn't based on a power play to get a promotion)?
2) If someone is doing their job well what does it matter if their private life is a trainwreck (plenty of people perform well despite relationship issues)?
3) Given this sort of thing happens frequently in large corporations why did this case get front page treatment whilst if it was two BHP executives it wouldn't be reported?
4) Why are the two males photographed and shamed in the media, but the two consenting females fly under the radar?

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

I think we just dont know all the facts. I agree on the face of it , if just sex, then its noones business. Seems like the women involved were mature. not junior and had no complaints. On the face of it- I agree with you. I did hear GM interviewed on the weekend and he said there were other facts that were not public. So the devil may be in the private detail....

I can only guess maybe there was a Ch 7 scenario where corporate credit cards were being used improperly on hotels etc. That's all I can think of that might explain it.

I also felt- this was a private matter

But Dermie actually provided the most logical response-
apparently in many Corporate contracts of employment there would likely be a clause about taking advantage of a position of power
and or liasons with others in the organisation for the fact that there may be seen to be abuse of the power.

No one ever talks about women sleeping their way to the top. One of those women was in a committed, long term relationship herself with Kurtley Beale. While he was playing in England, she was doing some playing of her own. It's not as though she was the work experience kid. She is an educated, professional woman. There has been no suggestion of it being non-consensual, nor that there was sexual harassment or bullying involved. The usual suspects have been typically histrionic in their condemnation, the favourite line is that the men should've kept it in their pants. Perhaps their wisdom and advice would be better directed towards their sisters, as in, try keeping your legs together.

This sort of thing goes on in every organisation. Typical of the AFL. Their culture has always been awful. Not through treatment of women, after all didn't they just have a review just over twelve months ago from an "expert" in workplace culture and treatment of women? Paying lip service, as per usual. It's their overall culture is the problem as it is based on greed, cronyism, dishonesty and favouritism.

This latest blowup has nothing with them changing culture. It's pure brand management. This story was doing the rounds six weeks ago and the AFL went into denial. As always, it acted only when it felt it's precious brand was threatened. Now, as per usual, they make all the empty statements and predictable platitudes to appease the critics. What a pathetic bunch of hypocrites. Their problem is their complete lack of integrity. Stay away from them, Ameet.

Great post. Let's hope Ameet's integrity goes above whatever cash those scum are offering

The Pierce, Dunstan and McKenzie contracts are still massive head scratches.
