It's lazy and too easy to pick on a player and blame that player for having a bad night.

It's easy for a player to lose confidence and it's easy for a player to lose form, but how did it happen?

It's easy for a coach and a match committee to drop a player when the team is losing games and for the coach to openly criticise a player and banish him to the magoos and keep playing his replacement, even though his replacement takes 7 or 8 weeks to actually start playing well enough to earn his spot. In other words, if you Hick and you were seeing Billy's form at the start of the year and seeing Billy get 2 possessions and yet keep his spot in the team, how would you feel and what would that do to your confidence?

Think about it. How does a guy go from being one of the best followers in the game for a period last year to being just 'a third round pick' as trade bait?

Worst game by a ruck man I have seen since Barry Brooke's v port Adelaide in Tasmania. Thing is even early this year he was our best ruckman. Looked completely lost

Watch it again and slow it down. It was actually a good tap, straight in the direction of Nathan Brown. Brown was sh1t and couldn't move into a position to win the contest and couldn't even impact the contest. Name 1 good thing that Brown did tonight? The thing about guys like Brown is that you don't see them doing anything wrong, because they don't do ANYTHING!! Full stop!!

I always thought he was a little underrated, despite a few of my Essendon mates calling for him to be traded.

I think calling him a gun is a little generous though. When Hickey put on a show like that, he was always going to make his opponent look like Dean Cox.

He was dreadful tonight.
Watching some of the replay of his ruck efforts i could see what he was trying to do however with the saints being so flat he didn't get the support he needed.

However around the ground he was up there the best players on the ground...... Shame it would be in Essendons best players.....

The loss of third man up killed every chance he had at being number 1 ruck, it used to cover his deficiency as a ruckman and let him pinch in here and there around the ground

I've been bangin on about this over and over this year .. not knocking Hickey at all but we were number One side for third man up last year ( 43% of hitouts The highest in the league , While Hickey usually provides a fair bit around the ground he has not got the physical body required without third man assistance

in my humble opinion the doggies poor form partially relates to them not having a big bodied ruck ( Bont had the most third man ups in the league, ., they ran second only to us at about 42%

You'd better get used to it ... it's back to the dinosaurs.....
