Re: Hickey
Insipid performance and clearly shows Longer has gone well past him. Lack of effort a real concern and will certainly be dropped. Trade value has really dropped unfortunately.

Well, you know what, some posters (maybe or maybe not you), have stated in their experts opinion have said having Billy is like playing with 17 players, well you know what,.playing with Hickey is still like playing with 17 for us, but like Essendope playing with 25!!!!!!!

It's lazy and too easy to pick on a player and blame that player for having a bad night.CURLY wrote:Hickey was easily our worst.saintsRrising wrote:Three quarters of our yeam tonight were very poor. Hickey was not the worst, but was one of the many below par tonight.
It's easy for a player to lose confidence and it's easy for a player to lose form, but how did it happen?
It's easy for a coach and a match committee to drop a player when the team is losing games and for the coach to openly criticise a player and banish him to the magoos and keep playing his replacement, even though his replacement takes 7 or 8 weeks to actually start playing well enough to earn his spot. In other words, if you Hick and you were seeing Billy's form at the start of the year and seeing Billy get 2 possessions and yet keep his spot in the team, how would you feel and what would that do to your confidence?
Think about it. How does a guy go from being one of the best followers in the game for a period last year to being just 'a third round pick' as trade bait?

Re: Hickey
Can't write that off as a poor night...woeful tap work, getting beaten to the mark and out-muscled by smaller players, absolutely no awareness, these are instincts you can't lose (or gain) with a month or two off.

Loved the ruck tap in the back pocket straight towards the goals. Total spud. Couldn't get a root in a brothel.

Exactly! I saw his body turning towards the goals and was swearing at him before he even tapped the ball...when was that ever going to come off??? Spanish Inquisition element of surprise perhaps?iwantmeseats wrote:Loved the ruck tap in the back pocket straight towards the goals. Total spud. Couldn't get a root in a brothel.

Re: Hickey
Watch it again and slow it down. It was actually a good tap, straight in the direction of Nathan Brown. Brown was sh1t and couldn't move into a position to win the contest and couldn't even impact the contest. Name 1 good thing that Brown did tonight? The thing about guys like Brown is that you don't see them doing anything wrong, because they don't do ANYTHING!! Full stop!!iwantmeseats wrote:Loved the ruck tap in the back pocket straight towards the goals. Total spud. Couldn't get a root in a brothel.

Re: Hickey
I always thought he was a little underrated, despite a few of my Essendon mates calling for him to be traded.elizabethr wrote:Bellchambers is a gun
I think calling him a gun is a little generous though. When Hickey put on a show like that, he was always going to make his opponent look like Dean Cox.

Re: Hickey
He was dreadful tonight.
Watching some of the replay of his ruck efforts i could see what he was trying to do however with the saints being so flat he didn't get the support he needed.
However around the ground he was up there the best players on the ground...... Shame it would be in Essendons best players.....

Scollop, ruckwork is clearly not your go!!!!!!!
Don't be ashamed to admit when you got it wrong!!!!!!!
I'm wrong many times, but NOT when it comes to the games of the Giants, speaking from much experience, despite what FaderBurns says!!!!!!!

Re: Hickey
When he missed the soda to get us to 21 points then spoil Carlisle only to let Bellchambers mark in there goal square it topped off his putrid physical presense.

Re: Hickey
Mate, Billy has been crap most of the year. Back him all you like. Most of us conceded that he was playing because Hickey couldn't get a kick in the magoos, but that doesn't mean you were right about Longer. The last couple of games Longer played great - especially last week. Before that he was putrid.stonecold wrote:Fair enough Fiery, but I've copped a lot of s*** on here for backing Billy!!!!!!!

Re: Hickey
I've been bangin on about this over and over this year .. not knocking Hickey at all but we were number One side for third man up last year ( 43% of hitouts The highest in the league , While Hickey usually provides a fair bit around the ground he has not got the physical body required without third man assistanceProph3t of egan wrote:The loss of third man up killed every chance he had at being number 1 ruck, it used to cover his deficiency as a ruckman and let him pinch in here and there around the ground
in my humble opinion the doggies poor form partially relates to them not having a big bodied ruck ( Bont had the most third man ups in the league, ., they ran second only to us at about 42%
You'd better get used to it ... it's back to the dinosaurs.....
