Re: Team v Bombers
I hope the saints don't follow some organisations' email conventions of using initials@domain. This side alone has 2 JGs, 3 JBs and 3 JSs.
Hickey needs to have a blinder to stay in the team. Richo is loving Billy lately. I'd like to see Acres in there...reading between the lines, Richo's probem with Acres is aggression. He praised DMac saying that in spite of his errors he kept attacking the game and being aggressive. Blake needs to crack in harder, I would suggest, is the feedback.
Team looks good! Good balance of experience and youth, of reliability and creative potential, inside-outside.
Gonna be exhausting for bombers defenders...Roo, Battle & Bruce are all top level for endurance and work rate, on the ground our forwards are very smart, all of them. I reckon Gresham and Billings will get 2-4 shots each on goal.
Fingers crossed we're at least even in the midfield...if so, I reckon we should win

Wouldn't bring in a school boy to make his debut because he's on school holidays and doesn't have much homework.

Re: Team v Bombers
Is Battle going to help us win the game?
Is he going to be selected for finals?
We need to win this game... puts us 3 games ahead of Essendon.
Hope Josh has a long career with the Saints but he'll be lucky to get 10 touches.
Acres could have 20 touches and kick a goal.
Did we just give up on the season?

what are you people on about? What other forward would you have picked to replace Membery? Bruce was the obvious one with Paddy also missing. Remember his game in the inter-club match, five goals. He will do well.

Why wouldn't Josh help us win the game? He plays exactly the same role as Skunk at Sandy.The_President wrote:Is Battle going to help us win the game?

Acres got 8 touches last time he played so Battle might be an upgrade.The_President wrote:Is Battle going to help us win the game?

Even Allan Jeans once picked a 17 year old late in the season, he turned out OK. Allan Davis was his name. Then, he named a bloke in the second semi for his first game; named on the bench for all three finals that same year. Travis Payze's name ring a bell?
Go get 'em Josh!

Billings, Sincs and Gresham to name but a few all made their debut games at a younger age than this almost 19 yr old.The_President wrote:saintsRrising wrote:Which mid would he replace after the Tigers game?The_President wrote:8cres must've had a fling with Richo's daughter/niece

Re: Team v Bombers
very happy with Battle in - love seeing youngsters debut - bring in fresh enthusiasm, and despite our position we haven't blooded many.
Also interested to see how Hickey responds. Given it's co securive 6 day breaks after perth another couple of ins could have been looked at, but can't drop anyone after last week.
As for Acres i reckon carn-sainter has it right - just doesn't bring enough agression. will be very good for us going forward, but needs to work on it.

Re: Team v Bombers
Would have liked to have seen Acres back, but I guess he will be soon enough.
As soon as he sorts out his motivation problem or whatever it is. Looks like the kick in the arse did him some good, though. Was it 25 possessions in a half for Sandy last week? He will think twice before backsliding again.
Good luck to young Battle. How excited he must be tonight.

Re: Team v Bombers
And in the early 1980s an even more experienced Allan Jeans selected yet another 17 year old to play his first game in a final - this time for Hawthorn - bloke by the name of Dermott Brereton who went alright in the game too if memory serves me correctly.Trev from the Bush wrote:Is he going to be selected for finals? Re: Team v Bombers
On Acres... I would say it's highly likely that guys like Long and Lonie are likely to drop out of the side the closer we get to September with the likes of Acres, Armitage, Weller and Dunstan breathing down their necks...
Doesn't need to happen now when the former 2 are playing ok.

It was a comment clearly made tongue in cheek.
What fwd would you bring in? We only have two in the seconds, Battle and Marshall.

Re: Team v Bombers
Clearly this shows the system is the most important part of how we play not the individual pieces. Battle for Membrey is a straight like for like switch. He will know his role having done it for a number of weeks in VFL and at training. I like it rather than trying to fill a midfielder as a forward which they may have only trained a couple times for that role.
Hence Acres has to wait, like others in the past for someone to open the door

Re: Team v Bombers. Carn sainter
Midfield is where I think we can make life really tough
We now bat deep , much deeper than most saint fans realise
They have dropped Watson a sure sign they are nervous about contest and spread
If we bring our A game in the middle we stop their run and easy disposal game
Watch for jake Carlisle creating some interesting mismatches floating forward
