Agree.SaintPav wrote:This is a good move
We've got to be careful not to forget that we're still really in a genuine development phase.
With Savage back in the team and playing as well as he did last week - the temptation must be there to resort to older, mature player players for a short term fix. Especially given that we're sitting a game outside the top 4 with 7 weeks to go.
But I think that's a trap. They've got to keep developing guys and building from the bottom up as if we were a game outside the bottom 4 with 7 weeks to go.
I'd really like to see Freeman get a game at some stage too. Ditto Rice.

Re: Josh Battle!
From what I have read he is completing year 12 this year. Does anyone know what his training commitments are? I imagine school takes priority so his ability to train with the main group would be limited with exception of school holidays.

I'm hoping that our opponents will end up "Battle scarred" " Battle weary" and be suffering collectively from "Battle fatigue"!!!!

Your average b grade school footy player still trains two nights a week so surely he can make at least three or four saints sessions a week.Saint_Ash wrote:From what I have read he is completing year 12 this year. Some other regular kid might do drama or whatever so I don't see why he can't train say 50% of a full player load.

Re: Josh Battle!
Of course he deserves the heartiest of congratulations. A young kid going to the show is a big deal.
But I am curious about the process that led to him being selected.
I try and keep a weather eye on how the good ship Sandy is travelling and all who dwell within her especially designated Saints players.
Apart from his debut when he kicked five goals, Josh has hardly set the world on fire. I hope I am not being unfair here. In fact I would have said Rowan Marshall was ahead of him in development.
But, if they want a mobile, high marking forward with good endurance then they have probably chosen the right candidate. In that sense he is very Membery like and he moves much quicker than Marshall.
Let's wait and see. I wish him all the best and it would be exceptional if we have unearthed yet another classy forward.

Re: Josh Battle!
I worry about the psychology of all of this.
Saints history with school boy players isn't good.
Owen and Georgiou come to mind.
Hope this kid has sensible people around him.
Don't want a Jordan De Gooey on our hands.
The fans play a part in this too.
We need to turn the hype levels down.

He's only doing 3 subjects this year so not a full Year 12 level.Con Gorozidis wrote:Your average b grade school footy player still trains two nights a week so surely he can make at least three or four saints sessions a week.Saint_Ash wrote:From what I have read he is completing year 12 this year. Re: Josh Battle! Owen and georgiou
Con
Comparing the Owen / Georgiou era to 2017 , especially at st kilda , in the treatment and support of young players is a stretch , to put it mildly . Our player management culture back then was shambolic
Battle has plenty of professional resources at his disposal as do you for your unfounded anxieties

If memory serves me correctly, wasn't Brendon Goddard still at High School when we gave him his debut?

Jack Steven? Jack was a schoolboy when he arrived, but had finished school by the time he debuted I think.
Brendan Goddard?
Also didn't Luke Ball get a game whilst at school completing year12
