Im leaning a bit this way as well
Roo really thought he deserved a free kick because he didnt get one 5min earlier
As the ball was in the air he realised that Membrey having marked it was a more reliable kick so changed his mind
The umpire - feeling sorry for Roo - gave the 50mt to make the shot a dead cert
And people complain that the umpires are biased against StK FC
Can't argue that it's gamesmanship and acceptable within the code - but I don't like it. But then, I also don't like the way commentators (e.g. Brereton - but most of the others too) are always so admiring of players managing to get one over on the umps - by kicking the ball out of bounds but making it look like they're not or by holding in such a way that the ump can't see, even giving an opposition player a smack that's not penalised. This is all naughty boys giggling behind the bike sheds stuff - not sportsmanlike (not even manlike, actually) at all.
I have to agree with dals_da_bomb,
my initial thoughts were "it's not a good look"
but then, why did Logue run away with the ball anyway? He's wrong for doing that in the first place
so it's his fault. He should have asked the ump who to return it to.
He's an idiot for falling for it.
About time we got one from the umps, we get monstered by them far too often.
All the times Rooey's been tunnelled and umps did zero for him.

360 have just shown the footage with the umpires instructions. Umpire clearly says to Logue give the ball to Membrey. So this whole thing is an absolute nothing.

At present I'm on the other side of the world but keeping tabs on how the Saints are going. I hope the Club comes out in support of Nick on this one. My reasons are as follows, imagine that the situation was reversed and one of our players had made the mistake. The media commentary would have been thus - dumb Saints player time to learn the rules. Nick is an ornament to our game and our club and anyone that criticises him for this incident should go soak there head in a bucket of sh@t. Garry Lyon talking about integrity? Really ? FFS you must be joking .
I remember one game against the Dopers when Stephen Alessio deliberately stood on Bakes hand, who punched hi on the leg and was reported. I remember in that game too a Dopers player pulling the ball underneath a Saints player then lying all over him to get a free kick, and got it, no commentary then. I also remember Matthew Lloyd late tackling one of our players and swinging him into the fence and again a no call. A similar incident with the Lions broke Lenny's wrist, and yep guess again, no call at all. As you can tell I hate Essendon, with a passion.
If anyone from the Club reads this forum then you need to defend Nick Riewoldt on this matter. Any other club or game it would not be worth a mention. Get on the front foot with this one, it's what your members expect.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.
Bravo Nick. 99% of supporters don't have a clue. Umpire told Logue to give it to Membrey. Cut it anyway you like but Logue was wrong and got penalised.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.
Have always believed these kinds of acts are judged by who does them rather than what happened.
If Stevie Johnson did what Riewoldt did on Sunday at Subiaco, the commentary would be lighthearted, along the lines of the cagey ol’ bugger trips up the young fella.
If it was Tomas Bugg, the commentary would probably have more edge to
Because it was Riewoldt, who is both liked and not liked by the fans, there’s a bt of Johnson and a bit of Bugg about it it, along the lines of the pest doing his best pesky work.

That's pure gold.
That guy has no credibility. Who listens to him?

Josh Bruce comments on Riewoldt's antics - “It’s a classic stitch-up. Everyone tries to do it and no one falls for it. Unfortunately for the young fella it was a big blonde Saint by the name of Nick Riewoldt and everyone passes him the ball including the opposition. So it was a pretty good one. I enjoyed it actually.” Haha!
Earlier in the season Stevie J did the old classic of running past an oppo player calling for the handball. Very much aligned to the Roo trickery. It almost worked for Stevie J, but not quite.
Media praised him with terms such as "genius", "old head", cheeky" etc.

Such a non story until oh wait, he plays for the Saints, we can put them in a negative light, lets run with it. So over it seriously but should be used to it.
As for Garry Lyon, the fact he's still in the media says everything about the media.

He made a comment regarding roos integrity. Lyon is the last guy to question anybody's integrity. He's made a few stupid comments towards the Saints now, like he's so high and mighty! Give me a break!

He said it was no different to staging for a free and admitted he'd done that himself. He didn't make a big deal of it.
