Re: Roo is a cheater
50 metres when a player:
Rule 18.1.(f) has not returned the football directly and on the full to the Player awarded the Free Kick or Mark;
Whether Rule 23 applies if another player calls for the ball and drops his arms or turns his back is an interesting question.

Re: Roo is a cheater
I think Roo is better than that.
What I don't understand is players who have the free or mark and the ball is not thrown to their chest. They bend forward or reach up to catch the ball and make the throw look good. Let the ball bounce and let the umpire decide if it was a good throw.

If you read Nick's lips he is saying "when convenient could you let #28 have the ball he marked and you tried to slip away with, please".

50m is very harsh. I don't agree with the rule but this is ridiculous!kosifantutti wrote:I think Roo is better than that.

I would not call Roo a cheater - he did not force Logue to throw the ball to him - cheating would be having the ball thrown to you and not attempting to catch it, then appealing for the 50.dals_da_bomb wrote:Ill go against the grain - I didnt like it much.

However, I immediately called it 'dog' [the act not the player] [and I applauded]. I thought it was a poor act, however, I can easily forgive this one considering the pummelling that he has received year after year and no reward from the umpires. I also, in my mind, believe that Members would have kicked it.
I could justify if there was a play on chance, and he was calling for the ball to be returned so Membrey could get on with it, but as it was a set shot, I cannot use that excuse. It happened - others have tried it on, it worked in this instance.

Riewoldt should not cop any crap for this. What about the Umpire? They made the decision.
The issue here is, that its a stupid and ridiculous Rule.

Re: Roo is a cheater
Cheater? How dumb is Logue not to realise who the ball should be given to - the bloke who just took the pack mark in front of you. Why would he throw it to Riewoldt? Certainly wasn't cheating, but definitely was gamesmanship. Hasn't changed my opinion of Roo in the slightest, and I could imagine I would be furious at the umpire and the said player if our team had fallen for the same trick. Not the player pulling the trick.

I'm giving Logue the benefit of the doubt because ever since his knee haircut, Members looks a bit like RooeyMoods wrote:Cheater? Re: Roo is a cheater
I don't like it at all.
Roo is admired in the game and has a squeaky clean reputation. The rule was brought in so that the recipient of the mark or free kick can take their kick and not be delayed.
I know many people call Nick Kyrgios a flog, but he often tells his opponent to challenge a call if it went in and was called out.
Yes the umpire got it wrong, but he had his back to Roo and Logue. Roo basically lied to the opposition, which in my opinion is not in the spirit of the game nor is it like his character.
I remember when Ryan Griffen did it to Clint Jones. He was standing only one metre away from Griffen, and Jones gave a perfect throw back to him, and be basically just took his hands away from the ball and deliberately dropped it. The umpire was blindsighted and Griffen got a 50.
Logue might have thought it was a free kick to Roo and not a mark to Membrey.
At the end of the day, I would've liked Membrey's chances of kicking it anyway.

Sorry Roo is not a cheater. Anyone that thinks that has no idea. Just my opinion though.

Re: Roo is a cheater
Three hundred and fifteen comments about this on the Herald Sun website. It's a good "talker" as they say, meaning people will talk about it.
The opinions range from "brings game into disrepute" and "I thought he was better than that" to "no rules were broken" and "if you can get away with it, why not."
In the end it's a first world problem that will blow over very quickly. Rooey has enough credits in the bank.

Bugg's punch was also called a dog act and that was much much worse.
No one got physically hurt.
No one made Logue do it. He stuffed up.
It was opportunistic and at worst, unsportsmanlike.

Re: Roo is a cheater
The old dog taught the new dog a lesson.
Had it been Lonnie calling Logue he probably would have ignored him but being Roo he just did as he was told.
Very comical really.
Much ado about nothing.
Thank god it wasn't a Docker doing that to one of our players or the rabid mob on her would have called for a six week suspension for the player and cheating umpire
I bet young Griffen is coping it big time from his team mates and I'll double up that he never falls for it again.
Lastly one almighty shock, Robbo didn't list the incident in his dislikes
Thought he'd be all over it. Maybe it happened after deadline?

Re: Roo is a cheater
Roo really wanted the ball...then he changed his mind..I mean....really...... .a bloke can't change his mind ?????
Re: Roo is a cheater
It is a ridiculous rule being so pedantic about the ball being delivered directly to the player and on the full - what else a bloody silver platter and white gloves ?kosifantutti wrote:What's ridiculous about the rule?Linton Lodger wrote:Riewoldt should not cop any crap for this. As long as the ball is returned without malice ie. deliberate throw at the player or kicking away in the wrong direction who cares if the ball is returned via another player ? What if the bloke returning it simply has a poor kick and it can't be marked on the full ?
Rooey pulled a sneaky one here no doubt but if it happened the other way around I'd be annoyed at our player and *furious* at the umpire for falling for it ..
