In my view they were very lucky.

Extra weeks rest.

Stevie J's suspension

Buddy's injury.

The planets aligned for them.

They were the 7th best team, IMHO.

On the day though, they kicked more than the opposition, so they won.

I reckon they deserved it. They had a never say die attitude. They had a new handballing program that stood up. They had some help with the umpires being 68 frees greater than the league average (and continuing). They had a lot of injuries that introduced a lot of newbies into their team that made them very competitive. Yes they deserved it.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Of course they deserved it.

But that doesn't for a second mean that they were incredibly lucky to win it.

So that's 6 from the last 8.

We play Freo, Richmond twice, Essendon, Sydney, Port, West Coast and Melbourne.

So if we win 6 of the those, considering all are contending for the same spot in the 8 that we are - then yes, we absolutely deserve to be there.

This time last year we were 6 and 8. So 8 and 6 is better. We need to beat Richmond - twice in 8 weeks - once at Docklands and once at the MCG. Win both i.e. stop D Martin, and we are home. All we have to do is pay him $1.2 million a year for 5 years and he's ours for 2018. Forget about the other dummies on the market.

Add North as this game will become a must and they are currently the only team blow us now bas the Swans who seem to know how to tear us apart.

Maybe not.

What if the siren goes over in Perth and the players and umps don't hear it. Freo kick the winning goal before the umps stop the game then the AFL reverse the outcome the next day and give is the points?
Assume these bonus 4 points gets us into the eight.

Will the footy world say we deserve a spot in September??!
Nice one SirenGate pay back. I would love to have the AFL call something in the Saints favour at least once. The second one being a Saints women's team.

Why? They have a run home that I wish the Saints had.

Crows (A), Blues (MCG), Suns (CS), Dons (ES), Lions (G), Giants (ES), Power (MCG), Hawks (ES). Should win 3 from first 5 as a minimum and form may be better for the last 3 in favourable grounds for them.

Given our position having been 6-7, if we're in the eight come September (and we will be!), then we will deserve to be there.

But I don't care whether we deserve to be there or not. The Hillbillies and the Cokegirls routinely have their ladder positions flattered by their home ground advantage(s). Doesn't matter. Once you're there, anything can happen. Just look at last year.

As we've found out the bitter way  , flags aren't awarded to the season's best team. Nor even necessarily to the best team on the day. They are awarded to the team in front at the end of play.

There's a lot of good fortune involved, as well as anything else. Just look at last year. But, you do have to be there to win it. And the more times you're in it, the more chances you have for that good fortune to (finally  ) align with you. So stuff being deserving! I just want us there in September!!!

The Win was a Tad Scrappy, but it was good to see the boys claw themselves to the front and stay there.. so often in past, (seasons) I've seen them lose close ones nice to get one especially Interstate..

Now for Richmond.. and do it for Maddie..

Love the Saints :D

Today's Age match report for yesterday is saying our finals chances are "on tenter hooks."

With the likes of the Swines making a charge for September, if end up qualifying, it will indeed be well deserved.

The silly pre finals bye has changed the state of September forever now (or until they hopefully scrap it) As shown by last year, the new variable added by this means all kinds of shite can happen as it did last year

To be perfectly honest, I don't care if we can't break in.
I just want to see better showings against Shitney and TIgers.
The Tiges- I hate how they moved up the ladder- we were expected to beat them Rd 23 last year,
and look where they are now? Bloody hell.

All I want is some decent wins and to be competitive.
Go to the draft and make some good calls, as opposed to getting another Tom Lee or Spencer White.

Anyone from position 16 up, can make the finals this year, just stick with it.

USELESS FACT: The WADA case against Essendon (in Sydney as well) is exactly 10 years to the day that Australia qualified for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
