win 12 and we deserve to be there . ...
and if we dont win the 12 we dont deserve the spot.
On the current form (even with 2 wins in a row) we are miles off.
We have neither the game plan or talent to get far in September at the moment

Don't want to be a killjoy but see the Freo game as difficult to win over there and the rest of the run home is against better teams or teams in better form so making the finals seems a bridge too far.

Next 3 games will tell the story.
Beat Freo over there, Richmond and Essendon - we can consider ourselves finals contenders. Lose even one of those games and I think it's a weak chance of doing much in the finals if we make it.

Of course we do. Don't under estimate what we have and the volatility of the comp. We have a good defence, Sinclair and Billings are really rising; centre is good - Longer doesn't get a lot of love but gees he doesn't get pushed aside; Seb is a genuine star; Josh the Bruce looks awkward but is a v. good forward presence; J Steven, K Steven.. etc. We are going ok i.e. in the 8 and should be. Oh and as requested some love for Newnes - Kicked a couple of beauties. Saints have no need to doubt what's possible.

Kick straighter and put sides away earlier and you never know.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

What has 'deserving to be there' got to do with anything folks? Believe me. #makingdesertgreatagain.

If we make it we deserve it.
We will need to beat a lot of teams around us on the ladder to make it. So the draw looks fair.

I don't have a great gauge on what a St Kilda side in the bottom of the 8 looks like. We've generally either been pushing for the top 4 or well out of finals contention. Sides that finish 8th are often mediocre to good though, which is what St Kilda are at the moment.

If we can't beat the Eagles in Melbourne and the Bombers we don't deserve to make it. That is for sure.

I couldn't care less this year, not going for the premiership this year so not much point in it. Keep building players like Billings, Acres, Dunstan, Sinclair. McCartin, Lonie and Membrey and consolidate our style of play this year, and go hard for it next year

Eagles are actually good at Etihad so that is no gimme.
They only suck at the MCG.
Basically we have to win today imo.

They were also ripe for the picking when we played them.dragit wrote:Dogs certainly don't deserve to play finals... they are putrid.

Farking oath. If we make the 8 then we are good enough.

There's 8 games to go in the most unpredictable season I can recall. How you can narrow it down to two teams fighting for eighth is beyond me.bigcarl wrote:Con Gorozidis wrote:Looks like it is between us and the Swans for 8th.

Come on Kft. Stop making sense. You have a habit of doing that.

Individual games are unpredictable but the overall ladder is pretty stable.kosifantutti wrote:There's 8 games to go in the most unpredictable season I can recall. Won't change much from here.
Separate the message from the noise.
The ladder looks very much like it did in May.

It doesn't, but maybe you'll be proven right.Con Gorozidis wrote:Individual games are unpredictable but the overall ladder is pretty stable.kosifantutti wrote:There's 8 games to go in the most unpredictable season I can recall. Re: Will We Deserve to be There In Sept?
I agree with you but unless we kick straighter for goal we wont be there despite all the hard work. It must be great to win but frustrating to put all that work into pressure and getting clear to move the ball faster only to see a point result. Look at Walters running into space in his Inside 50 area in front of goal and he scored well. Kept them in the game in the second half, or maybe it was our many misses that did that.BazzaBreen66 wrote:As much as I'd love to see the Saints get there in September, I'm not sure, if at this stage, we'd do much damage even if we did.
Ok we had good wins earlier in season topped off against God Where's Sydney? but then we fell in a heap for 3 weeks, only to come back against the Kangas and the Gold Coast with not so good footy but good enough to beat them.
Yes I know there's still 8 weeks to go or there about, but unless there is Improvement, especially in front of goal, I think we'd only be there to make up numbers.
Don't get me wrong, I want to see the Saints get there ..but just playing better before they do.. of course starting this week against Freo, which will be a hard task going by our rather nasty interstate record.
Go Saints
Looking forward, we have; Tigers, Dons, Swans, Power, Eagles and Demons. It seemed a long time since we beat the Swans and Power as these are both away from home. Melbourne flogged us and have a more streamlined game plan with a developing classy midfield that is better than most teams now and have the best ruck in the business. Then there's Tigers and Bombers who got within 15 points of us last year when they were both crap plus the Eagles who always mange to turn it on against us. In fact we seem to player the Eagles into form each year (bar round 2 this year).
Not looking to good unless the goal kicking fairy has a large effect on the team going forward. I would love to see them experience finals but would shudder by how far we might be behind in our first go at this.
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
