St.Kilda's accuracy in front of goal - An incredible stat

Post: # 1680813Post thecrevis »

According to football commentator and journalist Darren Parkin's latest tweet:

"St.kilda's accuracy in front of goal this year is 46.13%. The worst for the club since 1975 and worst by anyone since Tigers in 1989 at 44%".

In tweet comments: Average is about 53%. About 1-2 sides per season usually go less than 50.

Discuss.

Seems to be a reputable journo, but for the sake of argument let's assume yes. The saints kicking for goal has been appalling this year.

I'm glad Dash has brought this to the surface. I hope our coaching staff is trying its utmost to remedy this. I can't continue if we're serious about making the finals.

AFL website is accurate
We have kicked 159.185 = 46%

Saints website has us kicking 159.155 which is more like a Nth Korea style whitewash.

But of course everything the club says is TRUE!

There is nothing positive about this stat until it's above 50%

Perhaps we're lulling our opponents into a false sense of security...

If so I'm fooled

Dennis Rodman is best buddies with Kim Jong-Un
We should send Aaron Hamill over to Pyongyang...
to get some tips from the North Korean elite firing squad
on accuracy...
As long as our forwards don't get punished for mistakes in the North Korean way...

from the other goal kicking thread
posted by Beno88''Worst Goal Kicking Accuracy 1990-2017

Essendon 2016 – 45.76%
Gold Coast 2011 – 46.12%
St Kilda 2017 – 46.35%
Richmond 1993 – 46.40%

so, Darren whoever might have it wrong, The Injectors last year were worse than us.

Unless they count shots that fail to score( we had at least three yesterday) , they overstate our accuracy.

Such a high level of rushed behinds is also poor footy ... means we are kicking too deep and not giving our forwards room to move

The most incredible thing about this stat is that we are in the 8 - so we must be doing something right!

LOL - Ssshhhhh - don't alert the AFL

or

Maybe we are just doing things ‘less wrong’ than the other 10 clubs below us.

but seriously

19.14 rather than 14.19 is more than the 25 points that we squandered - when we were 5.10 GCS would have thought they were still in it - and in fact they were leading at that point - whereas 10.5 gives us belief and strangles GCS hopes - In fact 4.2 (26) to 1 point would almost snuff out the oppositions belief whereas 2.4 (16) still has them in it.

After 1/2 time we seem to be able to kick at 50% or better - before 1/2 time not so much

This same thought has been playing on my mind since Sunday. Is the generally negative perception (as judged by the tone of this forum) of our overall performance this season failing to pay sufficient regard to our inaccuracy in front of goal as a principal factor?

Of course, simplistically, "bad kicking is bad football". However, some of the more strident criticism of coaches/recruiters/list/individual players suggesting that we need to sack/delist/rebuild looks a touch overwrought through the prism of missed shots.

It is not just the immediate goal that is being lost, it is also the scoreboard pressure that builds confidence and rewards our player's efforts while at the same time sapping the opposition.

no one has a problem with that - they get riled when certain posters deliberately use imflammatory and insulting language and labels at players and the club. have a look at your own post history - when there is something remotely akin to intelligent informed criticism it s usually accompanied by, or added later as a defence of, imflammatory statements.
