Forgot about him.

Marchbank, De Goey, Lever and Wright all look like better bets.
Only because they've played games in s row and I wouldn't be happy with any of those at one over Paddy.
Even if Paddy never actually plays?

You just prefer the idea of him in an imaginary world or in the actual world where you need play several games in a row?

In my mind Paddy kicks 50 goals this season and 70 next season.

Horrible horrible luck. Last year he looked great against Hawks, Freo and Tiges.

Hate to say it but I don't think he'll make it.

Has the club actually announced what has happened to Paddy and if the sky is actually falling?

That many concussions is not just bad luck sorry to say.

Something's fundamentally wrong with the way he goes about the game.

Hate to say it, but I was relieved he wasn't playing last week. We are always waiting for him to have that breakout game and it doesn't come.

He did in Juniors, he was a heavy kid (relative) and used that to advantage

He can't get separation, he can't give multiple leads (unfit)
Is a poor kick

Not sure his upside??? (for such a huge investment)

This all true and you make very valid points. When you are a big junior and can use strength and height to advantage playing against other kids, it is even more important for the recruiters to focus on other strings to Paddy's bow in terms of his footy talent. They needed to do thorough, due diligence on him but I believe they saw him as a badly needed forward to replace Roo and got partly blinded by this. The fact is, take away his size and strength and was his raw talent that good?
Now, that he is in the AFL and the strength part is regularly being equalled by most, as BigMart stated, he has been unable to show any upside to his game. The biggest let down is his inability to make a second contest and to get separation. Good forwards show this as juniors. Was this part of his game scrutinized properly by the recruiters? Maybe not enough, or maybe in the same manner they did their homework on Tom Lee, as an early pick forward with 'plenty of ability and potential'

Bernard, it happened on the HFF goalside of the Sandy coaches box about a handball distance from the boundary

I was standing 5m to the side of the coaches box on the fence.

Spud was on the hill behind the coaches box talking to Turtle, Welsh and theStk club doc

Pretty sure I don't have to explain much more... I moved back from the fence after the incident and stood near the coaches box to hear the outcome of the incident.
Yep, but that's not what you said. Don't encourage people by exaggerating or embellishing your posts!

I think the recruiters were spooked and guided by two factors running through their minds.

1. The need to 'replace' Roo.
2. The Tom Boyd trade.

So they were driven by two things - the powerful subconscious fear of losing out and the powerful drive to be 'saviours'

These emotions clouded their judgment and made them want to pick Paddy despite the evidence and high risks.

WW (surely the two weeks is up?) - you are the psychologist. Can you help me out a bit here?

Do you honestly think they just ignored any apparent glaring weaknesses in Paddys game? In this day and age every test and measurement to gauge a player going forward is used. To suggest they just said yep this kid dominates juniors let's just grab him?

My god what rubbish. They took him because he was rated either the best or second best talent at worst in the draft pool.

Imagine if our AFL side loses to Gold Coast tomorrow!!

Then we can withdraw from the AFL and concentrate on winning VFL games

Even the most optimistic fan would have to have some doubts about him surely.

Can't hold a place in the seniors, not looking anything like an AFL footballer when he is in the seniors, concussed multiple times..........

That's what I normally would think but after the glowing report on Tom Lee as a gun forward, where they swapped pick 12 for 24 and 43, I'm not so sure.

He had a place in the seniors until he got injured and it's false that he doesn't look like a AFL footballer.

They rated him either best or second best and took him at #1

That makes no sense?!

Surely they rated him the best???

Therein lies the problem... he was not the best prospect. Another problem is, the guy everyone else rated the best, has turned out as much... that's just what the evidence suggests

Thank god CP did an ACL... otherwise holy hell!!!

The recruiters and talent scouts had him one of two depending on needs. CP dominate tonight did he?

Stone cold

Which player are we allowed to critique?
Hickey?
The ones you don't rate?
Are we allowed to have commentary on the biggest investment we've made since 2002

Medically speaking - how many concussions is to many before you need to take the boots off?
Is there a number?

5 sounds like a awful lot.
I would want him to be a gun, I would like to see him have success- but first i would want him to be healthy and safe.
Its his LIFE.
His so young. That is really sad.

People's opinion change on what they see now or this week then change the next depending on who plays the better game.

Good to see you've joined us in this thread stonecold. :)

A bit of a tip though, best to stop calling Petracca, 'Patricia'. This kid will haunt us in time, when you watch him play without bias. He's going very well after coming off an ACL repair.
