Played for The Basin v Heathmont in Division 3 of the EDFL last Saturday - and The Basin were thrashed.

Legend status?

I don't think so!

Then again, he is in the media.

Hard to accept him as a hall of fame when Stewie Loewe and Nathan Burke didn't get there.

For the record Hall's direct opponent could not talk after a punch to the throat before the game commenced, another player has a bruised sternum and another player has 6 stitches to his jaw - all courtesy of "Mr" Hall whose reputation was enhanced last Saturday

And he had the audacity to refer to his son as he did in accepting his Hall of Fame award

Just another reason why the AFL is a very poor joke - and a contradiction

Burke, Loewe, Winmar, Frawley, Barker.........yet Barry gets the nod..... Many more deserving Swans players, too, by the way. A bizarre and premature decision to reward a pretty good player who was a thug. Lots of players fit that category, but somehow Barry jumped the queue.

I would suggest that "was a thug" could be amended to "remains a thug"

His hits were disgraceful.
Should have faced criminal charges for the Staker hit.

Hall was on an SBS presentation in the last few weeks, with other former professional sports people talking to their (inability to) adjusting to life following retirement.

Given his continuing persona of last weekend, there is a marked difference between rhetoric and reality when it comes to "Mr" Hall and the way he presents publicly in forums.

He is a very dangerous individual - and why, at his age, he is pandered to and feted for bringing what he brings to a football field, and life, is a very poor indictment on the society media would have us live in today.

A "role model" "Mr" Hall is not.

And the fact he is now in the AFL Hall of Fame, in front of others named on here, is a travesty of total incompetence and worse.

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/barry-hall ... wvjdg.html

"Barry Hall admits he should not have played the 2005 grand final in which he led Sydney to a drought-breaking premiership.

In a preliminary final, Hall was reported for striking St Kilda's Matt Maguire and causing him great distress. Suspension appeared unavoidable for Hall. But his legal team successfully argued that although the incident was 30 metres away from the ball, it was in play because he was trying to free himself from Maguire's guard to make a lead. This, combined with Hall's guilty plea, downgraded the offence to the level of a reprimand.

"I had a good QC," he said when being inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame on Tuesday evening. "I hit a guy. I shouldn't have played the grand final. The rules were "in play, out of play". I was clearly out of the game. I got away with one. What can you do?'

Wrong!
It wasn't a good QC.
It was a tribunal pressured by the AFL to get their bastard lovechild home and get a return on the endless millions of our money they had pumped into propping up their experiment.

Yes - exactly. "Cheap shots".
Those two words should be on Barry's tombstone.

The usage of "Barry" and "basher" by a defender of "Mr" Hall says it all really.

And, as of last Saturday, nothing has changed.

FACT

Money where your mouth is, name them, Staker was warned several times as was Goose, they are not 'Cheap Shots', just because some blokes are really trained to know how to throw them, whilst other people are just 'Pretenders', anything sound familiar?????

Yes, the Hall of Fame is for model citizens like Barassi, Nicholls, Whitten, Dipper and er.... T Lockett, none of whom of course raised a fist or elbow in anger on the football field.

If you adopt the criteria of some posters here, half the Hall of Fame List would be wiped out. Sure there are some players that should be in that are not, but people need to get realistic, and not bag
a very good contributor of the game who happened to leave St Kilda, and gave Matt Maguire a clip.

Exactly

But at the same time, you've mentioned the problem. Hall was a very good contributor whose contribution, very good as it may have been, was not the stuff of legend or brilliance. What does the Hall of Fame mean when it is populated by players who aren't brilliant? The consequence of commodifying fame and legend like this is that it no longer means anything. Hall is not worthy of the same level of acknowledgement than R Harvey. If nobody worthy is up for nomination, they should just not add people in, rather than lower the bar

There is truth to that. There are also many on the Hall of Fame list who imo contributed LESS than B Hall. Many others such as R Harvey are more worthy. The bar was lowered years ago, and it is of course a good publicity machine for the AFL.
You could argue the same for the Brownlow - the midfield medal. It is flawed as well. I am just saying that based on history B Hall is a worthy member of HOF.
