Now I know nothing about this years draft talent.

Are the current picks 2-5 genuine out and out mids? And if they are are they bollocking inside mids, or are they the tore of mid we need?

What if they are rucks, or flankers, utilities, key position players etc?

Personally if we get Pick 2 and we can use it to get Kelly then we should. He is exactly the type of mid that we need and our current mids are not.

Kelly would cost us two first rounders, he's far better than Treloar who cost collingwood 2 firsts.

Good result today with Sydney winning. And Carlton in front of GC.

Looking at Hawthorn's fixture I can't see them winning more than another 3, maybe only 2. If that transpires, pick 2 coming our way.

Our challenge is to get Kelly but retain the Hawks pick

Re: Rockliff - a big NO for me - above average mid in the bottom side?? We need outside class not undersized inside battlers

Re: Draftees - like the look of Luke Davies-Uniacke - solid unit, great size, finds the ball inside and outside and has great skills

I hate saying this but I think we will do better outsourcing our drafting to GWS.
They don't make many mistakes but we too often just fritter our picks away on duds.

GWS has lost their first round pick because of the Lachie Whitfield saga.
They have traded away their second round and third round picks last year.
But they do have our second round pick.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_AFL_draft

I would expect GWS to continue with their policy of trying to get an early pick in before they are forced to queue jump to secure their first academy player.
At the moment, they won't have enough draft point currency (about 700 points) to even make that academy pick unless they trade away quality.
Our Hawthorn's first rounder may look very attractive to them if it will give them a pick ahead of their academy player.

Even if we miss out on Kelly we can still get an awesome result.

Straight swap - pick 10 for Whitfield.
Then use the Hawks pick (2 or 3) on a kid in the draft.

That should get us two guaranteed guns.

With Blues and Swans winning the Hawks are now even more likely to finish in the bottom 3.

Hawks to finish second bottom is a real chance.

Lions being 2 games shy of the Hawks and 7% behind will mean that Pick 1 is very unlikely for us.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-06-20/n ... n-in-peril

Hawks just announced that JOM has injured his patella tendon again.

"It's a new injury, different to what he had before," he said, referring to the injury that kept him out of the 2015 and 2016 seasons when he played for Gold Coast.

That is on top of his recent bone bruising injury. So no JOM to the rescue for the Hawks this year (and maybe beyond).

Round 14 wish list. Sometimes there's a conflict between what's best for our finals chances and what's best for our Hawk pick. This round looks great. Most games have a bearing on one or the other and not many conflicted outcomes.
ADELAIDE vs Hawthorn
Swans vs ESSENDON (not sure about this one but Bombers win likely to kill off Swans tilt)
Pies vs PORT (Port already 2 games plus % ahead of us)
LIONS vs Giants (unlikely but wouldn't it be good)
Dogs vs NORTH
Eagles vs DEMONS (tough one but a loss at home is likely to hurt WC more than an away loss for Dees)
GEELONG vs Freo
Tigers vs BLUES
SAINTS vs GC

Enjoy the weekend's barracking

I agree with all those hopefull winners Fidelis except I won't Freo to beat Geelong. Freo are only two games ahead of the Hawks with a percentage similar.

Same attitude here. Anything that puts distance between Hawks and those above them works for me. So Swans to beat the Bummers.

Simple equation - each week - Saints win - Hawks lose - that's not too much to ask for - oh and maybe the Brions to snatch a few!

I would give up pick 3 for Lever and pick 10 for Whitfield.

In a heartbeat.

Lever is crazy overrated, plays loose man in defence and isn't a great kick. We have Carlisle who plays the same role

As I said - our pick is likely to be higher than the Hawks one.

No number two pick this year. I doubt it will be a bottom six pick.

I reckon people were getting way ahead of themselves thinking it would be pick 2. It's pretty bunched up down that end of the ladder and each win or loss can have a big affect on positioning.

I reckon pick 3-6 looking likely. Their run home certainly remains tough.
