Its time to call it Richardson cant coach!
Richardson is a great bloke and loved by everyone, but as a tactical coach he about as smart as Tim Watson. The first thing the club need to do is get rid of Danny Sexton he has been screwing things up since Lyon was at the club. The next thing is sit down and assess whether they believe Allan Richardson can take the club the whole way, because all the evidence over the last 4 years is that he cant!
Then do the keep Richardson and support him with fresh tactically minded assistants or start looking for a new coach?
My call would be to let Richo see out his contract 2018 and then replace him, having spent the next 12 months finding the right replacement

Re: Its time to call it Richardson cant coach!
That first half tonight was possibly his worst moment as coach thus far.
We were loading up behind the ball and then playing on when getting possession with no one to pass to. It was utterly infuriating and listless coaching. Just what in the Dickens was Richo trying to get them to do?
And i hear him overuse the word "positive" in his post-match address to Saints members, I'll be sending him a letter to start working on his PR skills.

Re: Its time to call it Richardson cant coach!
I do feel we need a more tactical coach in our assistant brigade...of Eade goes he would be very good...Buckley even better.
Re: Its time to call it Richardson cant coach!
If youre impatient yes sack the coach. We just played the top team on their home ground on the rebound and we are down on confidence at the moment. G
et a new coach now and it probably will set us back 2 to 3 years while he gets to understand the list, the club and his own ability to coach. Are you really ready for that? Will you expect immediate improvement? And who do you have in mind?

Has totally wrecked every midfield he has been in charge of, and in comparison makes Richo sound like a cross between Obama and Churchill in the oratory department!

Timid Timmy, Voss, Hird, Buckley...the failed coaches club has a few former champion players who couldn't transition to the good coaches club.whiskers3614 wrote:You're dreaming if you reckon Harvey will ever get a senior coaching job!stonecold wrote:Being a big supporter of Richo, but, if he is reasonable for the tactics in the first qtr, times up!!!!#

Harvey is one such champ.
Most of the good coaches seem to be the average players who were just GOP's

I'm on the fence with Richo. But I think it would be suicide to get rid of him just now. I do believe that we are still paying the price of the Ross Lyin days of not recruiting and bringing on young kids and its frustrating everyone.
What about Billings, how frustrating is this guy.

let's wait to see what tony says.
"the boys are hurting just as bad as you guys. They promise to follow up with a strong performance against Norf next week
to make a statement."
Magically, the handballs will hit targets, the fumbles will evaporate, Longer won't handball to a guy who has 3 opponents on him,
and most of the set shots will sail thru.
Magic. Harry Potter is on hand with a huge bag of spells.

Re: Its time to call it Richardson cant coach!
He is slow on the uptake but he can coach and he just needs to HTFU and be a bit more ruthless
Don't play favourites and drop players that can't get the job done
If Nathan Brown or Carlisle play poorly do they automatically get a game next week ( assuming they're fit of course) just becasue they are tall? Does Billy Longer keep getting games even when he's not getting many marks, or getting many possessions and not stopping his opponent from getting plenty of the footy?
Do Jack Steven and Seb Ross and Jimmy Webster and Dylan Roberton and senior players like Gilbo, Roo, Joey and even the captain Geary never get dropped if they get around 20 or more possessions...even if they are butchering the pill and turning it over?
I want 4-5 changes when we have a bad loss. I think after the Swans loss Richo only really dropped 1 or 2 players ...reluctantly one was Dunstan. Also the other was reluctantly...After selecting and watching Rooy hobble for a couple of weeks he said; "please Rooy, is it ok if you sit out a couple?Promise I'll play you after the bye"

Re: Its time to call it Richardson cant coach!
tony will come on here and say :
It's not just the supporters who are hurting, and wondering what went wrong on Saturday night. I can assure the players, coaches and club in general were devastated in the performance on the weekend. The players were as low as I can remember.
They've all moved on though. Good training session today ( a couple a bit sore but I won't name them ). Lots of young Saints supporters for the clinic afterwards who all met their heroes and brightened everyone up with their contagious enthusiasm.
Remember a week is a long time in football.
this is from last year's Perth game where 105 points were given up

Coached by a genius who is a chess grand master tactician who makes John Monash look like a fool and is the greatest motivator and leader since the prophet.WellardSaint wrote:tony will come on here and say :

Re: Its time to call it Richardson cant coach!
There was a small discussion about Richo a few days ago.
I think the club are in a real pickle.
History shows they will want to drop him.
History shows that wont work.
I dont even think there is a preference in the supporters anymore (some want him some dont)
The only thing the majority want is solid success.
I dont think Richo is the right one. But he can not be fired. The era of coach turnover must be over for our club.
SO i would prefer that they see out the contract.

Re: Its time to call it Richardson cant coach!
I've always said that coaches have two jobs - to devise a strategy that is capable of winning the flag, and to get the players to carry that plan out.
Simple.
That's how I judge a coach, and how I think they should be judged. Win/loss is overrated. Big losses, and big wins can also be overrated.
Of course they need the cattle to carry out their plan - and that's where the grey area of coaching is. But after a certain amount of time at the helm, a coach needs to adapt his plan to his cattle. Otherwise the whole exercise is futile.
So this is why I question Richardson's ability as coach now.
Either he can't get the players to do what he wants them to do - or what he's asking them to do isn't working.
One way or the other - he's failing as coach. Both are his job and his responsibility.
Granted, I don't think we have the cattle on our list. I've said this many times before. So he needs some slack in that regard. And that's why he needs to adjust the strategy right now to suit what he's got - or change what he's got as best he can. He can't keep playing the same guys, under the same strategy, and expect things to improve.
It's just not working.
If it's the players' buy in that's the problem - then he's got a big problem and needs to fix it. But I don't think it is.
If it's his strategy, then he needs to change it. Now.
If it's the cattle, he needs to change it. Now.
The club can't, nor shouldn't sack him. That sort of talk is short sighted and reactionary. Naive too.
But he needs to change things. Immediately.
He needs to alter his strategy for what we've got. And that appears to be a list that has a sub-par athletic ability. And a list that is low skilled.
He also needs to play different guys. They might not be ready, and they might not be 'strong' and 'solid' as he clearly loves - but what he clearly loves, is clearly not working.

Re: Its time to call it Richardson cant coach!
I certainly am not calling for his sacking. He is contracted for another season after this which is fine.
But he needs to make changes. If that means to assistant coaches or the playing group or the game plan or getting external assistance or advice then he needs to do it.
Nothing irks me more than being stubborn and sticking to a losing strategy just for ego reasons or in an attempt to maintain your 'authority'.
It is ok to admit you are wrong.
