Re: Hawks 1st round pick watch
Isn't it a win for us if we get higher than pick 10 this year?
Isn't it as simple as that really?
We gave them pick 10 last year, in return for pick x this year. So if x > pick 10 - we win.

Weeeellllllll - yes - but we also effectively got Battle and Long for pick 68 then - so that is a massive unders for us. If we get 10 or better - then we have made out like bandits!!!!Johnny Member wrote:Isn't it a win for us if we get higher than pick 10 this year?

Battle and Long are effectively our pick 10 - so whatever we get for 2017 first rounder is a bonus

No - as Ace wrote…Johnny Member wrote:Isn't it a win for us if we get higher than pick 10 this year?

The trade was our original 2016 picks 10 and 68 for original 2016 picks 23 and 36 plus Hawthorn's 2017 first rounder.
So we lose 10 & 68 (2016)
Gain 23 & 36 (2016) plus Hawthorns first (2017) somewhere between 4 - 10
We have basically turned a mid first round into an early first round plus 2 second round picks
We made out like absolute bandits wherever Hawthorn finish.

Re: Hawks 1st round pick watch
In the second half of the season when their young players get worn out they'll struggle to win another game. They've done well to win four games, but two of them were by one kick, and their losses have been hidings. I think we'll probably get pick #5.

Rooting for the Suns this afternoon. Let's hope the bad Eagles turn up today; a further win for the Suns might bunch up the traffic at the bottom of the ladder.

Though two edge sword there. a good win by North would see them above us on the ladder. Though with an extra game played. we do have the Crows in Adelaide next though.Goose is king wrote:Massive result for us. Going for North tonight

Brisbane obviously a lock for the spoon, swans should rise... but the one year carlton would be doing us a favour by being something slightly less than totally atrocious and they'll likely let us down.

Pick 3 vs. Pick 5? Does it really matter?
We could get a Bont instead of a Billings.

If we are to trade it, then yes.Johnny Member wrote:Pick 3 vs. Pick 5? Does it really matter?
.
With GWS for example it is extra points to enable the Academy Rort. A early pic also allows them to use the low pick first and them to grab an extra potential star through the Academy Rort.

Re: Hawks 1st round pick watch
Sometimes I wonder if we should bother in the next two seasons. The system is rigged for GWS and I cant see the AFL changing the ridiculous 20% discount scheme until they have already won two flags.
Re: Hawks 1st round pick watch
We've struggled for 6 seasons with a hugely compromised draft and crippling stadium deals - AFL: "Meh plenty more teams in Melbourne".Con Gorozidis wrote:Sometimes I wonder if we should bother in the next two seasons. Qld and Sydney AFL: "We gotta get them to be the winningest to get them rugby folk - Academies, salary cap, put our men in charge up there - WHAT EVER IT TAKES!"
As it stands we have pick 4 and 8 (might drop back with academy s***). Would be some consolation if we don't make finals.

Did you know that GC, Brisbane and Sydney also have academies?Con Gorozidis wrote:Sometimes I wonder if we should bother in the next two seasons. The system is rigged for GWS and I cant see the AFL changing the ridiculous 20% discount scheme until they have already won two flags.
No one complains about them. GWS has lost access to the Murray region, which should be good enough I thought as that's where they pick up a fair amount of talent. Plus they have taken a hit this year from the Whitfield punishment.
Less of a problem then people think

Re: Hawks 1st round pick watch
GWS is so far ahead in terms of talent, they may as well hand them the flag if they get all their talent back. They've been missing at least six of their best 18 all year and yet they're still on top. If they get anywhere near their best back on the park, it's over. We just need to keep pinching their players in a concerted competition wise operation.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Looks like the Swans are about to go above the Hawks on the ladder again...unless the Dogs have an amazing last quarter and the Swans stop. But who knows this year!

Have you had a look at the Academy zone map?Proph3t of egan wrote:Did you know that GC, Brisbane and Sydney also have academies?Con Gorozidis wrote:Sometimes I wonder if we should bother in the next two seasons. Look at Appendix 2A p 204.
http://s.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL%20Te ... 202015.pdf
The other Academies are in areas where noone actually plays footy.
The GWS Academy is in zones rich with footy history.
Add to that Brisbane Sydney, GC have not had anywhere near the number of 1st Rd draft picks n the short time that GWS have had them.

Could be the difference between pick 3 and pick 5 for us.
Re: Hawks 1st round pick watch
No pleasure from last night's loss but I'm at the G watching the repechage.
Some good might come from this weekend yet. Suns have looked the better team so far. Does feel odd to be barracking for an interstate team but I'd take a win today.
