Even if we get Kelly, does this mean we'll now target another free agent? Heaven knows we'll have space in our salary cap.

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Not devastated by this. He hasn't looked anywhere near his best this year. Kelly, Rocky, Pittard seem more likely. Dusty is still my dream acquisition, but that looks increasingly unlikely. Josh Schache, anyone?
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

We'll only still be a chance at getting Kelly if we put a stop to these floggings and find some promising form after the bye.

IF we don't land a big fish or two our whole strategy goes out the window. Basically Richo, Finnis & Bainsy's balls are all on the line ATM

Re: Saints drop out of race for Fyfe - Herald Sun
I would think that with the TPP increases our chance of landing a "big fish" have been reduced and reckon we may well bring in a decent player of the Devon Smith ilk, but not a big fish like Kelly.
I have no problem with that, use our draft picks well and keep with the strategy of peaking in 2019-20. We can go hard again next year through FA or uncontracted gun, with plenty left in our cap,

Yes with all clubs gaining another 20% it has probably widened the pool of clubs that can offer big money. However the Saints will still be able to offer bigger money if they choose.
Question is whether it is worth the risk to destabilize the club through possible player discontent.
Though the bigger question is can we not take the risk. Personally I think the answer is that we have to take the risk, and the time is now.
I mean as an example would the Cats be at all a threat without Danger?
Having someone like a Kelly brings out the best in the rest of your players, and the lack thereof also means that you do not get the best of any playing group. This is you see teams like the Hawks at present plummeting. They lose a bit of quality and their so called many good players are exposed as the average support players they are.
While in past years much was made of St Kilda's reliance on a core of stars and poor bottom six and that supposedly more even team would be less risky and more successful, the truth is that all good teams will rely on a core of stars, and having those stars then makes the rest of the team walk taller.
St Kilda has rebuilt quite well. BUT has mainly rebuilt the support act, and NEEDS some out and out guns to take the next step, or rather steps.
The blueprint that the Saints have been following fora while was to bring in a gun or two, and that time is now. CARPE DIEM!
Kelly is exactly what we need.

Good point. Jaxons has been consistent in saying Fyfe was never a chance & will re-sign at Freo.Con Gorozidis wrote:Besides the so called leak were we ever in the race?
Jay Clarke in his article is implying Fyfe's demands are too much considering his lack of form.

Martin will stay a Tiger too.
Richmond simply cannot afford to lose him. Both onfield and offield it would be disastrous for the Tigers if he left.
They will much any FA offer, unless the offer was so high that it would probably neuter the offering club as well.
