Little or no on-field leadership.

Plenty of elephants in the room.

The failure of the club to vigorously support the players after Sledgegate.

Bruce replaced by McCartin.

Hickey more skilled and mobile than Longer.

Painful lack of speed and flair, including in the coach's box.

Not looking flash as a "destination club".

Lack of leadership is glaring.....

Minch is just not up to it....Play Long or Wright...
Mav to Sandy for a spell, lazy today and not handballing in the 4th and going himself over the shoulder
just reeks of a selfish mindset.
The presuure and tackling were top notch - just totally butchered the ball and went round in circles.

do you seriously think leadership is the problem ?? wow..clutching at straws. You could have general Patton out there the result would be the same.

Good point. We were competitive today despite being a bit off, again it was dropped marks and poor execution that resulted in that margin. We weren't smashed.

We are competitive with anybody this year and anything could still happen. Next year will be really exciting.

Today the onfield leadership wasn't great.

Since when is kicking 7 goals and losing by 40 points competitive?

Listened to Richo's post match. His comment that Longer was up against three Bulldog ruck men. Why did we select just one ruckman? Are we that dumb?
Bloody hell we keep losing games at the selection table.

So our 21 year old full forward had 15 touches NINE marks and kicked 1.1 when our team was spanked by 40 points.

9 marks was the equal most for the game along with Joey, Robertson and DMac.
What do those three all have in common? Correct, they're all half back flankers who kick the ball backwards to eachother to get cheap marks.

Paddy on the other hand managed to take 9 marks as a forward... with some of the WORST delivery ever. Just bomb it long and hope for the best.

But because he dropped a few sitters people are still calling for his head?

Could you imagine the damage he would do if they just kicked it to his advantage AND didn't all come flying in over the top and brining their defenders with them when he had a one on one contest.

"Why wasn't Bruce picked?
Because Bruce's formline has been absolutely HORRIFIC!
7 touches, 2 marks and 1 goal against the Giants
7 touches, 3 marks and 2 cheap goals against the Blues
Then gets absolutely SMASHED in the VFL by LIAM BLOODY JONES. Jones took 15 marks and was BOG. Bruce kicked one bloody goal.

Josh Kennedy would struggle to kick a bag if he played for us.

We had 95 tackles. Beveridge noted how good our tackling was in his presser.

I wonder if the Egyptian pyramids took this long to build. They were built next to the Nile. Our club is in denial

Good on you Firey, we probably all got a bit ahead of ourselves.

Today we showed glimpses, yet again (as well as a whole lot of stuff of nightmares). But unless we can turn glimpses into consistency we're unlikely to do better than last year. I'm still optimistic we can improve after the break, but I've reset the expectations ...

Yes.
I love a good Rant.

Firstly - Ive been pretty damn busy on the weekends. I havent able to watch a game live in weeks. Im a good no live watcher however. No media - no radio - no facebook - no saintsational. Dont check my bets. Nothing.
Even if i have to wait 24 hrs I make it work.
Tonight I should of been home at 7pm.
I wasnt.
We got stuck in traffic for an hour and a half. (Rant .5)

The kids didnt get to bed til 9.
I couldnt watch my game til after the Dons game,
I see the (I CANT USE BAD WORDS) score at the end of the dons game.
Thats a complete waste of my whole effort today. (rant 1)

Now i dont want to even watch the game. I do.. but i really dont.
Ofcourse i can come on here and have it all broken down for me. But even thats pretty frustrating because Im a bad sport. I hate losing. (rant 2)
And there is a unwritten expectation that as a MOD i really shouldnt lose my cool. Thats annoying. Everything is annoying.

I already know im still having a tantrum tomorrow. (rant 3)

So im sitting with my tea. Catching up on the forums - making sure its all going accordingly...(it pretty much is great work team)
in the back of my mind -
am i ever going to see us win a flag? Ive got maybe 60 years left.
will my dad?
Are we going get really smacked by adelaide? Do i have to watch that?
Do we have the right coach? Why dont they kick straight? Whats with the handballs, and the turnovers.
Why did i get sucked in to the hype?

and so on.

(this will be my most active thread - Im a really bad sport sore loser and i love a good whinge. Its perfect for me thanks)

Leadership - what the hell has that got to do with the performance?
If another player was Captain WTF difference would that have made??

When you don't have Bruce or Riewoldt
You lose a contest down the line after a gut busting lead
McCartin Jogs around 65 metres (behind his opponent) from the footy on lateral half leads, doesn't hit up enough to give the backline a contest

On McCartin
His last quarter was good, otherwise he was average again ... until 3q time as the main forward did not have a f50 possession and zero score impact
He's s defensive pressure and running awful
He dropped two sodas and fumbled at ground level

Billy Longer was a liability

AR had his worst ever coaching game - Riewoldt covers his cracks, because without him on the wing... there is no target coming out of defence
The Jake Stringer debacle was embarrassing...not identifying the correct match up, until damage done?!
Paddy being off the ground in the first half of the second Q meant that whilst we had control of parts of the period, we had no structure so no way to enter 50 effectively
The late decision move Jake forward, then abandoning it after 10 mins to play a plus 1
Despite being 4 goals down... bizarre and weak

Beverage
Noticed almost immediately the mismatch of Morris and Carlisle
Swapped after 1 minute with Adams, while Morris went to inexperienced McCartin

2018?i keep hearing this i just dont see it when all say how much we miss a Riewoldt....

we simply lack quality - especially meters gained, ball carrying mid quality with foot skills - Dogs still have quality to bring in!
play on at all costs with a poorly skilled list is a recipe for disaster....we are the turn over kings
we play a style that is high risk but without the skill level to pull it off..,know your limitations..

Unless we have anther Hamill/Gehrig off season steal in FA WITH some draft skill injected that nets us te next Bont......I cant see an ageing Riewoldt in 2018 leading this side to glory

Good rant. I watched it on Foxtel as I'm temporarily incapacitated. Feel your frustration. The TV was in danger a couple of times. Breathe, grasshopper. Breathe.

jonesy wrote:What we are dishing up at the moment is bordering on farcical. This Kamikaze handballing that we've decided to adopt the last month could be the dumbest thing I've seen in football. Either that or the way we bring the ball into the forward line, one of the two -dumb and dumber. If we had Lockett Loewe and carey in there we'd only be marginally better. It has to be the worst forward style of play in the modern era.
Richo is a great motivator I have no doubt, that's seen in our tackling, but gee whiz the questions marks are there after we have been exposed the last few weeks.

Secondly,if the umpiring department refuse to pay holding the ball/incorrect disposal like they did today, then we might as well not even tackle. That was the worst umpiring performance in adjudicating that rule of all time today. Just don't tackle anymore, pointless
Say no more.. Jonesy is on the ball.. We can all see it, can richo turn it around? Because it's becoming farcical.

The modern game is about getting first use of the pill out of the centre and being a go to target around the ground. The tall ruck men must show this for the team to be competitive.
