more than the 1.5 mil a year the pokies bring in for us?
Also when the gov gives us 90 mil to build a stadium I think we will
Is that figure gross or net? (I know it's gross in one sense.) Other clubs gouge $20 million or more out of struggling socio-economic communities. So $1.5 million isn't actually all that much in the grand scheme of things. Conversely, Nuff Nuff have no pokies. Hillbillys are looking to be free of pokies.
However, forgetting the morality:
- The pokies are the reason Archie Bloody Fraser sent us to purgatory. How many millions has that cost us...?
- The league as a whole would like to be Pokies may well not be a sustainable addiction for so-called 'family' clubs and their ilk.
- Move to JO, pokie-free, and we'd gain way way more than $1.5 million in extra revenue sources.
Pokie-free? It's not just morality, its also hard nosed good solid business sense.

Firstly, we don't need $90 mil to build a stadium. AFL games are already played at (very) small crowd capacity venues in Canberra, Cairns, Darwin, Alice Springs, Lonny, Hobart, Shanghai'd (10,000 capacity). JO hosted 26,000 at the last Community Cup.
What I'm saying is we don't need a huge capacity stadium.
Hillbillies net
$825K with an average crowd of 26,000.
We
pay Dockedlands
$73K for a home ground crowd of that size?
(30,000 is our break even point.)
And despite the AFL taking over ownership, no new deal appears to be in sight.
Financially - it's a no brainer.
Secondly. Once back and settled at JO, not $90 million. Not straight away. But, we would end up getting plenty of $$$ poured in to help development of the ground. That's just one advantage of sharing with other switched on and like-minded sporting organizations.
But it wouldn't stop there. There's also the marketing. Finally leveraging into what no other vanilla team can match... our birthplace...
funky town St Kilda.
Do it right, and we can become the best known Australian sporting club - domestically,
and internationally.
